Umm, WB, what is the difference between "Runtime in 'high' is 3mins from a cold start, 5-6mins in med / strobe, and endless in low mode 200mW" and "From a full charge you get approx 45 mins to an hour on high, 1 1/2 hrs on med and 3-4hours on low".

Runtime from cold-start to what? battery drain? temperature reach what degree?
From full charge to what? battery drain too? i'm a bit confused.. Sorry

Runtime in 'high' is 3mins from a cold start, 5-6mins in med / strobe, and
endless in low mode 200mW! Tested up to 42mins, the demo model stabilized
and maintained a constant safe temp where the laser could be run for hours
with no cool down times.

From a full charge you get approx 45 mins to an hour on high, 1 1/2 hrs on med
and 3-4hours on low. Personally, I'd 'top up' my cell after 45mins of use if high
mode is mostly used. If you use low power all the time, at least every 3 hrs.

EDIT* Just ran my personal unit for 42mins in low mode. The temp doesnt
seem to exceed 33-35c even at the 40min mark.. Think its safe to say
that the runtime in low mode (200mW+) is unlimited :san:

I wish he would use conventional terms like "duty cycle" rather than run-time. :undecided:

I think it's:
3-minute duty cycle on high
6-minute duty cycle on med
unlimited duty cycle on low

and

45 minutes of use from a full battery on high
1.5 hrs of use from a full battery on med
3-4 hours of use from a full battery on low

And duty-cycle means what? In english please .. Is it the time it takes before the laser stabilize? As in slightly dimmed? Say, from cold start, turn on, it peaked at 1.3 then stabilize at 1.1 for example. The time it takes from 1.3 to stabilize into 1.1 is called duty cycle?

Duty Cycle:

This is the max time you should leave it on before you need to turn it off and let it cool down for an equal amount of time. Exceeding this rating will / may damage the laser from overheating.

For this unit in High mode: You should use it for no more then 3 mins at a time, with a 3 min cool down before turning it back on again.

High mode, the laser will get hot in 3mins from a cold start and needs to cool.
The battery will need to be charged after 45mins of use in high mode as
it taxes the batt the most.. The rest should make sense...

What's your (Canadian ?) source for the XSL 18350 batteries, Joe ?

I order my batteries from DX (china) and dont have a local source for them.
If you need extra, PM me, I have more...

Any luck with getting these to run at over 1.3W?

I'm actually saving up for your other build... but I love small hosts, and at 10cm... 1W+ of power is hard to beat. It's been done... but with terrible duty cycles.

The modes are as follows, high-1.1W+ (continuous) low-200mW (pulsed), med-600mW (strobe)

Hi, i still don't get the difference between continuous and pulsed. They both have constant visibility, only difference is High and Low mode (brightness).

Can anyone help me understand this?

The low-200mW pulsed, the beam will appear solid to you. You will only noticed that it is not continuous if you look at the dot and wave it on a wall.

The med-600mW strobe is exactly what it says, a strobe effect. The beam flashes on/off very quickly, same as strobe mode on flashlights. You can easily tell that it is flashing on and off.
