For Sale: 1.85W Custom Z5 Build!

For sale here is a custom-done, 1.85W Z5 build. I know this build has seen some popularity recently, and for a while, it was my collection 445nm laser. But, seeing as I recently got another 445nm that I prefer (smaller, more efficient, etc.), I figured I would let this one go.

The build was fun. I started out lathing out and then milling out my own heatsink:

Those two holes, you guessed it, are so that the heatsink can be screwed onto the host!

(Pardon the crummy photo - it was done with my old phone's camera - didn't have my new phone until I had already finished this).

I coated the bottom of the heatsink and the top of the part it screws onto with first thermal grease, but then I figured I would get better connection if I used both the screws and adhesive.

The next step was the custom focus adapter:

That was threaded out so it could accept a G2 lens and still screw nicely onto the head of the laser.

The result of all of this effort? An incredibly well-heatsinked, head-turnable focusing, 1.85W monster of a 445nm laser!

(Note, this is using an M-140 diode, not any of the new fangled H1600s or the 9mm's).

Pictures!

Beamshots! Not with smoke or any changed effects. This is how the EYE perceives it!

And finally, the LPM test shows it's stability!

lpm.png

As you can see, the LPM test shows that, even after 140 seconds, it only started to drop below it's rated power. Despite this, I am not "underrating" it so that it can have a remarkable duty cycle. It only drops 30mW in over two minutes.

So, specs:

Power: >1.85W
Batteries: 2x 18650
Lens: 405-G2
Heatsinking material: Aluminum
Approximate run time: 2 hours
Duty Cycle: 2 minutes on, 1 minute off
Driver: BlitzBuck

Price: $200 + shipping.

You MUST have laser safety goggles to purchase this.
You MUST be 18 years or older.

Nice price. That should sell fast ! :gj:

Re: [For Sale] 1.85W Custom Z5 Build - Long Duty-Cycle!

Yup :D

Also - i realized I didn't put this in the OP, so I will update it with this information: It runs on a Buck-Boost, so there is no chance of the driver overheating ;)

Nice build  You should consider polishing the focus adapter :)

Anyway what current is it running at?

greetings,,

Re: [For Sale] 1.85W Custom Z5 Build - Long Duty-Cycle!

I believe it's running at 1.5A or 1.6A. I can't check tailcap current though because it runs off of a buck converter :\

Also: The focus adapter doesn't look as bad in real life as it does in the picture.

Damn! that is a good price. You get a lot of laser for your money with this one. No doubt. Good work.

Re: [For Sale] 1.85W Custom Z5 Build - Long Duty-Cycle!

Thanks. Yeah, I am not looking for huge profit on this. Almost at price, really - just want a return on my investment of making the laser now that I have a replacement for my collection :D

(I only like to have one laser of each wavelength at a time - that's why I am also trying to get rid of my Copperhead.)

Re: [For Sale] 1.85W Custom Z5 Build - Long Duty-Cycle!

Nice Price for a laser w/ G1

What current are you running it at? EDIT: I see you posted this...
what driver are you using?

are the holes in the heatsink so it can be mounted using the stock mounting holes?

Does the heatsink have 2 sections?
Like one with a larger diameter
and one with a smaller diameter that sits inside the host?
hard to tell, the pics of the heatsink are a little crappy.

Re: [For Sale] 1.85W Custom Z5 Build - Long Duty-Cycle!

The driver I am using is a BlitzBuck, drawing less current than it puts out :D

The holes in the heatsink ARE so that it can be mounted using the stock mounting holes for a much tighter fit.

The heatsink is just one huge hunk of aluminum that is directly screwed onto the host for maximal thermal contact. The Focus ring is rather large as well, adding thermal mass the host (it is thermally glued to the host too so it, too, can ask as a heatsink for the lens or for the host, whichever gets warmer.

And yeah, I apologize for the crappy pics :\

Oh you're selling this? I thought you were keeping it. I've seen this in person. Awesome laser guys. Love how rich blue the beam is.

Re: [For Sale] 1.85W Custom Z5 Build - Long Duty-Cycle!

Yeah, decided to sell it - I made a stronger one for my personal collection with a more advanced (more efficient) driver and copper heatsinking instead of aluminum.

Re: [For Sale] 1.85W Custom Z5 Build - Long Duty-Cycle!

Hey!
I'm totally interested if it is still available.
I do apologize though..I don't mean to lowball... but could you possibly do $180 shipped to Canada?
Thanks

Re: [For Sale] 1.85W Custom Z5 Build - Long Duty-Cycle!

$180? This laser is a freaking steal at $200+shipping.
