So there hasn't been much of a follow up on this whole fiasco on the world stage so let me just point out a few things if I may :
-The few idiots that started the whole thing actually started it before the game even ended.
-They went downtown prepared to start things. Premedatation = going downtown to watch hockey on a bigscreen with thousands of other people and families and remembering to take a molotov cocktail or two with you "just in case" you might "need" one.
-Don't forget to take a backpack full of fireworks too ! (Fireworks are illegal in Canada except for a very few places during the week leading up to Halloween. And the number is dropping fast because of these types of idiots at that time of year too !)
-Not a lot of coverage of the groups of people that banded together to prevent looting is some of the stores or the few that received serious injuries trying to prevent hooliganism.
-Reports of people getting stabbed while ripping the masks off those that needed to bring full ski-type face masks on a balmy spring evening to watch a hockey game.
-And then there are the hundreds of true fans that decended on the area starting at 7 A.M. the next day and started cleaning up the mess that was left behind.
That is hundreds of people showing up to straighten up and make the streets clean and safe for everyone without being asked, without pay or compensation, without even recognition for the most part. Many of them lost a days pay because they didn't go to work.
Now that's a story that would be worth reporting.
BTW. The stupid hockey game prevented me from being able to see the BC Lions stomp the Calgary team 24 - 0 in their home town. Go Lions !
