Snow + Laser attempt

Sadly it started to snow WAY less. ealier we had thick BIG flakes, and it was AMAZING with my DIY blue laser defocused to like a 100ft spread. SUPER starfield. Sadly, i didnt think to take pictures.

So i did 10 sec exposures by hand. Seeing snow is white, i knew it would make a really bright dot..



I just love how deep and rich the blue 'glow' is =D I had to hold the camera by hand, while shooting the laser. All beaming was done obviously in my yard, and the sky-shot was done to horizon with a focus where 100ft == 10ft wide.

So yeah. Snow just started in west michigan. We get bad snow storms often, blizzard-like. Good time to do a laser then! Some I have to protect. But my red laser is 100% waterproof so... =D Will try more attemps later. My main focus here was "Galaxy" attempt and "Drawing in snow" I want to later take my red, green, blue, and violet and try to fast-draw some pictures. Max time I got is 30 seconds. It works good...But i'll do a movie next time to get that galaxy look.

It would be cool if you could capture some projection in mid air reflecting off the snowfall. Other than that, snow is just a very nice white canvas to paint laser graffiti onto

Yeah, it's especially cool when you have the ability to defocus it. Then the whole field of snow falling in that defocus beam glows very bright blue about 30ft out, then fades darker and darker. Must try if you got one that can be focused, when it's snowing out at night

I use to have a program on my computer that did "draw with light exposure" it was real-time so I could see what and where I'm drawing. Made it easy to make multicolor pictures. Doing so with a black screen camera in a 30 second time frame might be a bit harder...

@Flaminpyro: good pics, the last ones looks almost surrealistics ..... especially the one that looks as a "time-tunnel" effect, and the other quoted from Bluetoast :beer: ..... was you just waving the pointers, or using a scanner/projector ? ..... the beams sources looks in different places, so i guess for waving the pointers


@Chezumss: Too short shutter time, and, anyway, if you increase the time, with all that ambient light, it may probably become overexposed.

If you want to take a pic in which you write something with a laser (or any other light source), you need, first, a camera that left you program the shutter time (as 4 or 8 seconds, as example), and also, a tripod, otherwise all become blurried and moved ..... also one of these cheap supermarket tripods can be ok, as starting.

Also, consider that with long exposure times, the ambient light must be taken in consideration too, otherwise it influence all the rest ..... and for powerful lasers, also the light reflected from their spots can cause undesired effects ..... if ou can get a camera in which you can set manually both the diaphragm aperture and the shutter time, it's the better choice, so you can use a closed diaphragm (like 16 or 32), and a long shutter time in a dark place, so the pic will show the dot and its track without show too much other details of the surrounding ..... also, for get effects like the ones from FP, you need fog, mist, cloud or a lot of particles in the air .....
