Re: SF-BW512L 12x BR sled GB *CLOSED* *NOW TAKING PAYMENTS*

Just checked the tracking

Inbound International Arrival, October 16, 2010, 11:47 pm, ISC NEW YORK NY(USPS)

So the stuff is in the country now.

Woo. Tracking says it left memphis at 6:38am this morning so I should get it tomorrow.

This is a good thing!

Re: SF-BW512L 12x BR sled GB *CLOSED* *NOW TAKING PAYMENTS*

Thanks for all of the updates qumefox!!!

It is almost like I am going to recieve this package(even though it is really you)...and boy it makes me giddy...:D

...I am addicted to recieving packages that contain lasers...it is my drug...

Nice pics,.. weird that they are marked differently yhough. Do you know if Morgan saw the same thing with his GB?

I think all of morgan's, at least those he's mentioned, were marked SF-BW512L or SF-BW512P.

I believe daguin got some of the sleds marked PCMK-M1X from rayfoss though. I ended up getting stuck at a customer's site all day so I didn't make it to the office at all.. where the majority of my laser stuff stays, so unfortunately no tests of the other two sleds tonight. I did however pick up the packing stuff on the way home so I can get the rest of the sleds packed and ready to go out hopefully tomorrow night.

Scwheeet, thanks for the updates. It would be awesome to have some class 4 violet light for halloween.

Thanks for the quick updates. I look forward to receiving my sled so that I can see what 405nm + 445nm combined looks like.

I am also very happy with the way you have been updating us constantly...its appreciated!!!

...sometimes in GBs, the main organizer doesn't really have it together...and that can be bad, but you sir are not that type of person!!! Thanks.

Hey qumefox,

Looks like you got them then. Good to hear.

Just a note on outputs compared to the one I tested. A good rule of thumb for comparing an Aixiz 3 Element Glass Lens and a Jayrob 405-G-1 is to simply add 15%, (and I'm sure you know this but some might not). It's not precise but it's close enough to give a ballpark expected output with the other lens. At 500mA input this would give you around 617mW with a Jayrob as opposed to 537mW with an Aixiz.

Just trying to help out in case others think these are way below the one I tested. They are a little less efficient but not by much and that's to be expected.

It would be good for the overall picture on these if we could tabulate the results from your GB and mine to gain a better understanding of these sleds? PM me if you're up for this. I hopefully will get some results back from the 2nd Round too to compare the, "Other Sled".

OP updated again, test results for the PCMK-M1X diode are up.

And Morgan, i'm not so sure about that %.. The best aixiz 3 element lens I tested tonight had an output about 2% LESS than the aixiz acrylic lens I was using as a base.. I had one 3 element that got 3.2% better than acrylic, but it was one from the same seller I got the sleds from, and not a lens from aixiz.

Would it be possible for you to retest one of your diodes, at least at low powers, with an aixiz acrylic to compare that with the 405-g-1 numbers?

And i'm in no way against getting all the data in one place. Though for it to be an accurate comparison, i'll have to buy a 405-g-1. Though there's no way I can test the first diode again since it LED'd itself while I was comparing lenses, and also I don't really trust my aixiz lenses now since at least at 405nm, they appear to perform worse than acrylic.

Looking good qumefox! The 660 in these ..do they run at abt 100ma or output 100mw?
That number is stuck in my head for some reason.
Hey.........I think I see mine in the box.

If your 3 Element lenses are performing even worse than the standard acrylic, I have to think they are not coated for 405nm. The generally accepted figures, (roughly), are that a properly coated Aixiz 3 Element glass lens will give circa 15% more output than a standard acrylic and a 405-G-1 will give circa 30% more output. I have seen a 3 Element glass lens do worse, (much worse), but only when coated for 650nm. I wouldn't advise using a standard acrylic lens above 200mW as they can turn opiac over time, melt at serious powers thus contaminating the diode window, and cause serious back reflections that can kill the LD as they are uncoated. This may be why the diode you were testing LEDed.

I personally wouldn't risk a standard acrylic at anywhere near the powers of these diodes. If the observed reflection in natural light from the 3 Element glass is a sort of blueish colour, (and not the yellowish colour I'd expect), then it's highly likely it is coated for 650nm. I'd be happy to repeat my tests with what I know to be the newer broadband coating for 405-445nm and compare them to the 405-G-1. Let me do that at the weekend and I can send you the results. Sounds like something is amiss with your lenses here. Regardless of that though, you do need to get yourself a 405-G-1 just because they are THE lens to have for these diodes!

I'll PM you the results and you can have a look.

To all who will be receive their sleds soon, then please post your figures. WE NEED MORE DATA!!! :D Thanks!

(p.s. @ Vaporizer - the reds in these sleds are not in a the same package as the BRs. They are a funny square mounted diode so will not easily fit into the common modules we use. Have a look at this thread for some info - http://laserpointerforums.com/f38/harvesting-lite-12x-52254.html )

the 4 aixiz lenses I have are supposably the broadband coated ones. 3 of them are the bluish 'wrong coated' ones, only one appeared to have the correct yellowish coating. That's the one that scored 2% less than acrylic. 192mW for the acrylic vs 188mW for the 3 element lens. All tests were done driving at 200mA btw.

Here's the results.
acrylic - 192mW
'correct' broadband aixiz 3 element - 188mW
'wrong' broadband aixiz 3 elements (3 tested) - 150mW-164mW
aixiz 650 glass lenses (4 tested) - 170mW - 173mW
broadband 3 element lenses from this seller (5 tested) 185mW-199mW
