Sorry, was out of town this weekend and just now had a chance to check emails and respond on the thread.
Yes, I have news. Here is the news: I am not going to invest any time or effort into another group buy right now. Some for reasons relating to Dragon Laser but mostly personal. First Dragon Laser. Personally I cannot say anything but great things about the product or service I have received. Adam has been excellent in answering questions, offering solutions and opinions, and taking care of business when it came to the last group buy and in the time intervening. I don't want to say anything here that could detract from that. He and DL worked hard to earn my trust and establish a good reputation and there is nothing that has been done to me to change that.
I did however receive a private message from another LPF member who I believe was acting in good conscience and wanted to share some information he felt I should know before doing another group buy. The bottom line was his dealings with them didn't work out the way he believed they should have and the product received did not meet his standards. Additionally, the solution offered by DL wasn't acceptable to him either.
As the organizer I felt it necessary to secure everyone's interests in a future group buy so I took my time to investigate this and speak with Adam as well about it. I see both sides and don't feel it is my place to judge who is correct. It isn't really my business. What is my business is what I do here, my reputation, and what trust is placed in me by you all who may participate in another group buy I organize.
I can say that should I have chosen to organize another group buy I would have given full disclosure to the concern raised by this member then confidently proceeded with the group buy. Since I will not be doing the group buy it is not my place to give full disclosure and won't be. This member may or may not post something about his experience, otherwise I won't be giving details. Again, not my place to do this.
I will however share the concern that this raised with me that is fair to share because it is a revelation I had after learning of this issue. We all entered the last group buy with certain expectations based on a couple people's reviews or personal experience. The product we bargained for was a Spartan 50mW 589nm laser and had Adam provided 11 units that all did exactly 50mw as advertised, none of us could really have any complaints. We got what was advertised. We didn't all get 50mw 589's though and this is where the problem or concern I have stems from. We all got lasers that on average had an output between 160% and 180% of advertised if my math is correct off the top of my head. Unfortunately any future group buy will now be judged by these standards. I didn't realize how lucky I got on the first one. The chance of having 11 lasers output have such a tight standard of deviation is pretty amazing when you consider the 589nm DPSS hand held.
Imagine the next group buy if we had another 10-12 people order and one or three of them received 52mw peak power units and everyone else had 95mw, 100mw, and 115mw peak power units. Would you want to deal with the fallout potential here? I wouldn't. So, this is one reason I am abstaining for now. If I were to do a future GB it would be agreed upon well in advance what expectations should be had about what you may receive, and if what you received met those parameters there would ne no issues raised. I think some would fold but must would stay in the game with this said up front.
Aside from this, the main reason I have decided not to organize another GB right now is personal. After doing some serious soul searching this last weekend I have come to realize I am spending too much of my already vanishing free time in dissipation. This, while enjoyable and helpful to others is still time I could be spending on other things that have greater value. Things such as building a cardboard clubhouse for my 3 y/o daughter, watching Mickey Mouse on TV with her, or a number of other things I will never get to do if I miss out on them now. I think some of you get the picture. Time for daddy to start better prioritizing his time and let one of the younger members here with all the time in the world organize the next one of these.
I did my first two GB's almost back to back and they went off almost flawlessly. I think I want to end, at least forhe time being, my GB track record with a 100% reputation and stop while I am ahead.
Lastly, I do endorse DL's 589nm Spartan and can only say the product we received on the last GB was worth the money. I personally would do business with them again, and probably will someday down the road. I also stand behind Adam, my experience with him far exceeded my expectations.
I hope that was helpful. I apologize to anyone who was really looking forward to this, hopefully someone will pick up where I left off and carry one forward.
Cheers everyone! Have a good week!
