Hey John...

As they say in the forum..................... BEAM SHOTS REQUIRED... ;)

Hey John...
thanks.... now we know it works....... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

Jerry

Hey JL I can't tell you how much I appreciate you building this!  to all those looking, I would caution, the beam looks much bluer to some cameras than the reality, so I'll see if it's WL is a lot different when I can.  I know that JL has been making some totally rocking pens and my chrome lyra that John made is going to be tough to beat!  Best Wishes All!  -Glenn

BTW, one other long WL blu-ray is in this pic! (it's the last beam to the right)

I've noticed that the diodes capable of producing 140mw or even 120mw are more and more rare. I've killed so many phr-803t's at 100mw, 90mw and even 80mw that I really question the quality of all these sleds.

I have one i built 6 months ago @ 150 ma it puts out 130 mw it friede once bad connection but since then works great @ 1 minute max mostly 5-15 seconds its only got about say 2 hours on it  i did accidently leave it on once the botton got smashed and stayed on till the batteries went dead  even if I have to replace mine and Scopeguys diodes every once in a while  its worth it they're purty @ 120+ mw  ;D ;D ;D

boy i hope i didn't just jinx my pen unit  :'(

edit my lava driven units dont seem to last very long compared to Rkcstr and this may be my fault
in the way i have been building them no esd strap not checking ma ect I am not putting down the doctor in any way that would be suicide on any forum :P :P :P :P :P

This is one of the main reasons I drove mine so high.  I drove mine higher than I was willing to recommend to others because I was able and willing to replace them.  I NEED 150mW to be able to see the beam :(  (damned old eyes)

With the availability of the 4X's now AND the "trickling in" of the 6X's it should no longer be necessary to drive these sturdy PHR's so hard any more.  100mW of violet laser light WILL burn stuff if focused.  I was lighting "pastel colored" matches with 35mW the other night!  I think that the community has seen the last of the 150mW PHR's from me.  I will limit PHR's to no more than 130mA of current from here out.  If one wants/needs more, move up to a 4X or even a 6X diode.

Peace,
dave

GooeyGus and I were just talking about this yesterday. We both agree that the PHR's we have been dealing with lately are not as "strong" or "tough"
as the ones we were getting before. I had attributed the increase of "blown diodes" discussed on the forum to there being a higher percentage of NOOB's building lasers. However, my personal experience and now both your statement and GooeyGus' feelings, lead me to think that maybe there was a change in which diode was used OR the conditions under which they were harvested has changed.

Even more reason to switch over to 4X and 6X diodes for higher powered violet lasers.

Peace,
dave
