Sci-Fi 501b mod

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here it is. I wanted to change my 501b host from sci-fi and didn't have funds but I did have a dremel and a few dollars for paint. I ground down the self defense spikes on the head and painted it a cream white. I did take it apart and tape the threads etc and not just blast the whole thing.

I know that members on this site are very skilled and make amazing things and that this doesn't compare. I am open to positive and negative feedback and suggestions but please don't trash my post just to trash it.

Pretty! Do you know if the heat from the heatsink won't damage the finish?

It shouldn't get too hot, of course, but still.

well i must say thats very well done all white 501b that came out awesome i like that .
I have a dozen 501b's in black now off to the paint store LOL!!
Nice job Modding it . plus+ Rep for ingenuity and adapting .

My beam is crooked too. The module doesn't really fit symmetrically.

Looks fine to me. Tried making the focus ring white too? Wonder how that would look although I also wonder if it would stay white with handling.

Hi,
Yes a white focus adapter good one and throw a little clear coat on the build for easy cleaning,,

Maybe I'll look into a custom white focus ring in the future. I'm sure spray paint is not the best method but what is pretty cheap, looks good, and can be done at home. Maybe a airbrush kit for models? Thanks again for the comments.

What paint did you use? I'm looking to mod mine a bit but worried about the paint peeling off.

This is what I used but I can't say I would recommend it. The color and finish look good but I'm starting to question how durable it will be. I might try putting clear coat.

Good ole rustoleum. :wave:
