Sanwu Pocket 505nm 30mW review (With pics)

Can't you just grasp the lens and unscrew it from the focus knob? On most lenses the side with the screwdriver slots goes into the knob first. Is it somehow backwards on Sanwu lasers?

lol its way too tiny to grasp with fingers, it won't screw off or pop out with anything. I tried screwdrivers, various pliers, even my smallest ones don't fit, I tried tweezers, I tried knives, the sucker won't budge. Seriously has anyone ever tried replacing the lens in one of these? It feels like its there to stay no matter what. I was okay with leaving the lens inside but now I'm curious if its even possible to remove it.

Maybe they put it in the other way around? Wouldn't that mess up the beam though, or it doesn't matter which way its in there?

I've unscrewed the lens of some of my pockets, they use to put a small bit of glue on the front so they don't move by accident, but if you make a bit of force, you can do it.

These are the tweezers that I use for it:

Nice tweezers man, I'll try it again tomorrow thanks. :tired:

Nice review of your 505 Pocket. They are such a tight and tiny builds. (own a couple, but not a 505). I use the heck of of mine. They seem to be able to take a beating and keep throwing photons. :)

I also have unscrewed the lens. Used two plastic tooth picks. ( or was it wooden, it’s been awhile ) they also have a rubber gasket they holds the lens in tightly, once you get it moving it’s still snug till you get passed the gasket on the way out. I put mine in backwards once just to see, and it made a colorful flashlight.

Nice pics also. :)

Edit; after further thought, pretty sure it was wooden toothpicks I used. Tried plastic but they keep bending over. Think I broke one or two wooden ones before the lens came out. The wood won’t scratch the lens, it’s why I opted for the wood. (If memory serves). Hope it helps, best wishes.

You have got me truly curious if you will get the lens out of the focus knob or not. I assume they are the same 9 mm diameter lenses we all use in these handheld lasers. If enough of the lens protrudes from the back of the knob you should be able to grasp it with something and break whatever glue Sanwu puts on them loose. If I were building them, I would use nail polish to secure the lens instead of glue. It breaks loose more easily and can be removed completely with acetone. But, that's just me. Do let us know how this plays out. :thanks:

Thanks for the rep guys :)

I finally got the lens out of there! (With help from my dad lol)
I put the G7 in there and its horrendous, once I focus it there is a dot in the middle surrounded by green light everywhere, I decided to screw it (Pun?) and put the element 3 back in, I am happy with element 3 so its fine if I don't use the G7.
That's the end of that story I think. :toilet:

That splash you see is common with all single element lenses. You give up as much as 30% of your power with the three element lens. I don't mind a little splash if the dot is okay. Enjoy your new laser, buddy.

Thanks, the splash is terrible though, its way too much.

I’m sorry to hear about your G7 lens problem. Sanwu makes both 7mm and 9mm G7 lenses, and I wonder which size they sent you. I’m waiting for my Pocket, and Iordered both sizes as I don’t know if they differ. I’m glad that you’re happy with your Pocket and hope you enjoy it for a long time. Take Care.

I'm sorry to hear that too. I just ordered a 7 mm G7 lens from Sanwu to see if they are any good. At $15.00 each, they aren't cheap.

I requested installation information when I ordered the 9mm G7, but I’m still waiting to hear about delivery status. Hopefully it will ship before the CNY hiatus.
