Ridiculously powerful laser pointers - from China.

Hi

I recently saw a laser pointer for sale from a supplier in China that seemed absurdly powerful. It was a 20W blue laser pointer. It cost a few hundred dollars, and did look fairly imposing, more like a lightsabre than a normal pen size pointer - and it came in a metal box with goggles etc. But can such a thing be genuine?

They claimed to have free shipping to the UK, though I did wonder if HM Customs might have some additional "charges" to add. ;)

It was billed as a 20000mW blue laser.

I'd be very interested to hear what people think

Cheers

Tass.

You ain't getting a 20W blue laser for a few hundred dollars. Would need to start talking thousands before it would even be considered. Most likely a typo for 2W/2000mW

Most likely a typo like @Things said!
Can you give us the link..?

Hi

I thought it must be a typo - though they mention it several times.

Here's the link:

Wholesale - 20000mw blue laser pointers 450nm burning match/cigarettes/wood5 capsglassesbatteryc, Free shipping, $359.48-414.86/Piece | DHgate

There's more than one variety on that site. As you say, it sounds like it must be rubbish - but I wondered what you all thought.

This host is often used for 1W lasers. I guess forum members could squeeze even 2W into it. I mean efficient diode, good driver, good heat dispersion discipline. But 20 is typo for sure. Not so uncommon on these sites.

it is hard to imagine it's a typo when "20000" appears on the page numerous times. Isn't this yet another unsubstantiated claim we often see from "over there?"

If it had that kind of power you would think they would advertise it as being Abel to set trees on fire / cook cows standing in the field/ shoot down the satellites  . Id think twice b4 I bought from them !!

Would love to have ANY wavelength handheld laser at 20W that can run on 2 chinese 16340 cells.

:wtf:

And I'd love to know how many seconds (or fractions thereof) of battery life you'd get!
