RF excited CO2 lasers

Fun stuff there and a large beam dump for safety !!!
How much current are you running in the video? How about a light bulb ;D

Mike

well as far as current Im running about 11.67  amps at 30 volts on main amp  and my little wallwart puts out 4 volts and  23ma into the driver  :)

If you wanna get technical, actually your wallwort is (hopefully) only pumping about 20ma through the optocoupler controlling the modulation. The maximum rating of the wallwort is another matter. ;)

I didn't mean to come off as a jerk but I guess it would be nice to keep the facts straight in a technical thread such as this one since people buying these lasers from Chris is likely to turn here for support... hence my correction. :)

Have a nice day guys!
Regards

Nice! Ill do a video when I get everything finished, and my second laser working, I'm waiting on a transistor from Chris for the second laser.

Tottish You didnt sound like a Jerk to me :) thank you for the correction after all our goal here is to help fellow laser enthuesist thanks for you input Lynn ;) :)

With that 4 volt wall wart, you should be in the 20 mA range to the photocoupler. There is a 150 ohm series resistor in mine to help limit the current.

Mike

Mike I checked Im at 23ma to the driver and 11.67 amps 30 volts to the main power supplier (AMP) does that sound a little better? :)

Lynn --

I was never concerned about the PWM input current. That opto coupler works over a very wide range of input.
My driver seems to draw much more than yours (15 Amps) but I'm running 2 Gell Cells at lower voltage. I don't know if there is a power regulator in there to maintain constant RF power out.

Mike

I can turn my voltage down and check again what voltage are you getting out of your gels and I will set my powersupply at that and then check my amp draw

Try it at ~ 26 volts DC. Those gells pull down quickly but you have a different driver so it may not correlate.

Mike

Hey Mike, what amp hour are the gel cells you are using to run your laser?

At 23.5 volts, mine draws 11 amps. :)

My Gells are in those portable car start units. I think they are 6 amp- hour cells. I monitor the current with a DC ampclamp meter and I read peaks at 17 amps. It seems to level at ~14 amps after a few seconds. That's a bunch :o

Mike

Lynn ---
I seem to draw more current than that but they are all different.

Did you get the TEC sensor figured out?

Mike

Mike ,Yes Im showing 7watts and then a slow drop just Like Chris had figured that is what he had marked on the tube :)

Lynn --- better check the RF power meter and tuning. Check those coax cables >:( Mine drops off a little too as the gell cells pull down under 24 volts.

Looks like the RF CO2 club is going to be more exclusive than I thought.
