RF excited CO2 lasers

I learned long ago that for many applications, a transistor is still a transistor within a large spec group. If it works and the heat isn't too bad ----- Success ;D As I said -- I knew you could do it !!!

Mike

That's what I was thinking. It wouldn't be super expensive either and you could probably fit 5 of those in a backpack.

that would work, :D I run mine on a 30 volt 12amp lambda power supply but I also hooked up 7 18650s to it and it worked fine but for how long I dont know I was just messing around to see if it would work and it did fine :) your gonna love this laser we all been having a blast with ours :o

Turtle ---

Since those are lead/acid (gell) cells They might provide enough current but not through those tiny springs. How much current are you planning to run?

Mike

what I would like to have, and dont know how to do, is a homade collmanating lens for this thing to be able to focus for further distance burns..l. I know everything would have to be znse lens but what type is confusing me  :-?

After reading posts from others, you are aware that they can draw more than that aren't you?? You can get 10 amps using a PWM however.

Mike

I am aware of that. Heruursciences has the PWMs does he not? Do you think the contacts on the batteries would be able to handle 10A?

I have no idea what those springs can handle. They may not burn up but I^2R losses may be high. Starting with 30 volts, a 2 volt loss may be acceptable. Did you order one yet ?? Have you ever built a laser??

Mike

I haven't ordered one yet. I was planning on actually doing so tommorow. I have been into lasers for over 1.5 years, so yes I have built lasers, along with other electronic devices.

Get it !! you can always make direct connection to the cells. I'm going to try 8 - 18650 LiIon cells.

Mike

You don't have to tell me twice :)! I was considering using 18650s as well. How long do you think you could safely run it for with 8?

:D ;D :D :o  I don't know......  I only want 15 Amps for a couple seconds at a time !!  These will run at 5 amps for a while.  Observe precautions related to heating of some parts at low duty cycle.  I don't know how long an 18650 can provide power at various amps without overheating.  These are the cells used in many highbred(sp) cars so I expect the best.
Asking for --- say -- 8 amps for ~ 30 seconds shouldn't be a big problem but watch heating of the driver.

Mike
Better order now !! I just ordered another  ;D   Power is fun.

Probably?... How big are the back packs where you come from? I could fit 20 or 30 in mine. :-?
