Jetlasers.net 300mW 650nm RED LASER - PRL
Hi, hope all is well with every one of you.
It has taken long to finish this review coz until recently i didnot get the chance to test the power of this handheld red laser 300mw from Jetlasers.net . Not a free sample though they offered free shipping and goggles to me.:yabbem:
1. Cool look and tactile feel.
This 300mw portable red lasers gives a solid robust feel. Kinda bulky. It seems people can use it to knock against glasses in emergency situations. Black finish and very cool design. The named remote connector key ruins the overall coolness of the laser, so I asked them to remove it(they still sent it to me as an ornament. :))
2. Features: A Lot
The features are plenty and said to be compliant with FDA’s requirements for a Class IIIB laser except the customized removed/disfunctioned remote connector control. In addition to the blue led indicator and key switch, the focus adjustable head is very attractive coz it’s easy to use and makes the laser body extensible, thus making it more sure-grip. The aperture beam protection is user friendly enough and simply screwing it a little shifts the on to off, vice versa. The lanyard, though not matching the laser finish color, can be also help sometimes.
3. About the Red Laser Beam
The laser dot is not purely rounded but oval-shaped or kinda square. Maybe it’s the Near Tempoo of its transverse mode that makes. The beam is just good when I measured the power and burnt the newspaper at indoors at daylight but the beam brightness is stable enough when I left it on for around 5 mins, except that the laser body is a little warm but not rly heated. The listed beam divergence is around 1.5mrad(not tested it yet) and the beam size is obvious thicker than most red laser pointers at the aperture. The beam looks fabulous in dark but hard to capture via the camera. Sorry for the bad quality of this pic.
4. POWER RATING - TESTED:
Just as other jetlasers laser reviewers stated, this 300mw red laser portable also proves to be much over speced and tested at my buddy Yue-lin’s lab, this 300mw red portable peaks at 378mW(crazy), and average at 355-365mw, not exactly calculated but ‘shocking’ly good enough. It takes around 15-20s’ warm up time before it rises to the average power. See the video below.

5. About Burning Capability
Frankly, I did not burn much with this 300mw laser except one or two red headed match that was dyed black by me. The burning speed is good enough, probably maybe I did not get the focus pinpointed well. But the burning of the newspaper is effective enough. See the video below.

6. Pros
Longer duty cycle.
5 mins’ continously on did not overheat the laser. Certainly longer time operation is not recommended.
Smaller beam divergence and bigger beam size at aperture.
At least performs much better than a 2.5 or 3.0mrad red laser beam. Of course it costs a little more.
Safety features: The aperture on/off protection and the key switch is good. The key switch can also be customized to be removable from the laser even when the laser is on. It makes the working laser more good-looked.
Focusing Mechanism.
Long Enough Body - like police guns
7. Cons
A little more work needs to be done on improving the precision of the on/off aperture protection coz now simply screwing it a little(like 20 degree) cannot exact make it on/off and imagine it would be kinda dangerous to check it from the front. So Longer "throw" of shutter should be set. Shutter should rotate 90 degrees to go to open instead of the 20 degrees or so that is current production.
8.Goggles:
They offered me a pair of 600-1100nm safety goggles, which not only blocks this 650nm red laser beam but also works perfectly for my 808nm laser pointer.
9. Packaging
The red laser portable came with a delicate carrying case and looks formal though the charger is added outside the case.
10. Recommendability Rating
Highly recommendING this laser to anyone who is looking for a top-notch solid enough PRL (portable red laser) and don't mind spending a little more $$$ than on ordinary pens.
Thanks and have a nice day! :yh:
PS: Can anyone tell us how to make the youtube video Show on the page rather than the mere link? Thanks...
