Review and build of Sinner's MSSSW by offroad!
Hey guys!
So after a long wait it finally came to my doorstep :eg:. Yes i am talking about the MSSSW sinner's secret custom hosts! This is going to be an extensive review of the host itself and how i build the first one (the next i will probably do a little different.
Especially since these were 1x 26650 these for now a unique (i believe). I fell in love with this host. I think if you look at it you will too!
First want to thank Sinner for this amazing chance to let me build these beauties. This host is my new favorite. I really like ehgemus his work aswell but the looks of this are just undeniable. :can:
Now one is finished with an 9mm 445. I will do the other one when i have time again and received another switch because i fried one lol (I will come back at that later) :tinfoil:
So let's start with a little drooling:
Well you get the point :gun: This thing is amazing. Let go from the part when i recieved the hosts and i took them apart so i could review threading and polishing. On with the pics!
Aren't these amazing? Let's take them apart and see how they break down. First the focus ring fall's off. Because well duh they still need a lens in them.
Tak note on the fine details in front of this focus adapter. I love the detailed work that got into this. The focus adapter still needs a lensnut to be pressed in. Let's do the picture's some more talking
This is a direct press head. NOTE. Mine were to small to directly press an Aixiz into them so i use a dremel and fine sandpaper to make it a little more accesable! When you take away the heads you see these pills. You can screw them out.
Each pill has some nice caps with them so you can easily make the + or - pole and press them in. Again mine were to big so used the dremel again to make them fit. (Better big then too small, you cant file material onto it )
These are some nice machined body's! And then at last there are some tailclicky's!
Note all the threading on all the picture's Thet may not be perfectly clean everywhere but this is how they came out of the box and i couldn't be happier with the threading and finish on these! Here is the total break down! Sinner was even including a very nice 26650 to 18650 adapter
Now for building one of these monsters :gun: For this build i used two ben boost mini's in parrallel. I used the stock 9mm lens in a DTR lensnut. But before we get to all of that good stuff you first have to make a switch! :tinfoil: Wasn't exprecting that but in the end it is just a little bit more work. This is how i did it:
Now there are many way to do this but i thought this was probably my best bet. I drilled a very tiny hole (not entirely through) and pressed a small nail into it. This way i could solder a lead very easily to the host and the first pin of the switch. Next i soldered a nail to the other pin and filled it with hot glue. DAAMMM don't do that! The switch melted right away :tinfoil:so i had to order a replacement. With the other one i did a better job.
I still kinda disliked the looks of it and went ahead and epoxy'd a nice rubber top onto it! That looked like a finished clicky to me  The clicky itself i don't really like. It feels very wooly and a better quality switch is better (Just IMHO) Anyway it workes like a charm!
Next i went on with preparing the pill. I put a thin layer of thermal glue onto the bottom. After wiring the dual ben boost i glued them in! Take note i again drilled a small hole and put a nail into it to make a solid ground contact point.
While that settled i went on and pressed a lens nut into the focus adapterand pressed the diode into place Again you might want to drill the head a bit so it fit's the Aixiz better:
In the meanwhile my pill has settled and it is time to close it up! I used a protected 22650 in this buils which was way to long So what i did was trim the plastic part and pressed it a little recessed into the host to the bigger 22650 wil fit. I used the trustfire ones that Blord reviewed a while and they performed ok!
And when i closed it all up i immediatly out of exitement hooked it up to my test load!
I got a rock solid 2.1A. This is a very safe current.
I hooked it up to my nice 9mm diode and fired it up (with goggles ofcourse!!!)
And :gun: :gun: :gun: IT IS ALIVE
I went ahead and got myself a reading using "peregrine" and my ophir meter with the "ARGLASER" datalogging option. Awesome stuff guys! And so i did a three minute reading!
That is what i call a nice output! no weird ripples nothing. Just a steady drop in power when the host is getting warmer. it peaks at 3180mW and after three minutes settles at 2870mW. which is a decrease of about 310mW. This high decreaseay be due to the heat the benboosts generate in comparison to normal buck setup. Also maybe the current sagged a little bit in this reading. So what i did was put on an extra small heatsink ontop of the pill.
while the thermal glue dried i charged my 26650 cells and took another second run! This was also from a total cold start
The reading is higher and more stable then the last one. This time i got a peak of 3428mW for a split second and it settled at around 3160mW. After three minutes the power was about 3030mW so this time the decrease was only 130mW! That is more like it!
Now what would a review be without a few beamshots? Sorry for the blueish teint sometimes. I you point the laser at something wite the entire room lights up!
Thanks for looking
