Does anyone know how to remove annodization (sp?) from aluminum, without sanding?

IE - a chemical process that would work for a rather intricate piece of metal?

I've heard that oven cleaner will work.

Although not exactly hand/machine sanding, but still along the lines of sand, if you have yourself or know someone who can let you use a sandblaster, that gets rid of anodization very fast and very cleanly.

Ive personally never heard of chemicals that can remove anodization, if anyone knows Id love to hear about it too.

Oh lol - I missed your cautionary note before trying it myself.

That said, oven cleaner stripped the anodizing almost instantly!

Oven cleaner contains lye, which should eat aluminum and oxides thereof. Make sure you rinse it really well.

Lye is the trick. I use it to remove anodizing and it works awesome.

..and I sure hope you dont have lye in oven cleaner?!? wtf! lye is probably the most dangerous chemical you can easily buy!
