Red laser build - 660nm
Some month ago i ordered all the parts for my first laser build and now they have arrived. :D

Part list
- LPC-826 (from ebay-seller) - $10.50
- JAD kit - 478mA (from Mohgasm) - $25.00
- Module for the lens (from Dealextreme) - $3.40
- Copper module (from GB by Mohrenberg) - $2.00
Total: $40.9

Building
First off i started to check if the JAD kit was fully functional (you never know if the post man abuse your package). So i just connected the module from Dealextreme with a 5mW laser in it (tested it to be 8mW. Just for.. Testing.).

It seemed to be working just fine :)

Then i pressed the diode into the copper module and soldered the leads from the driver to it.

After doing that i put some thermal paste on the it and took the module into the head sink and screwed the screw to make it fit just fine :)

Then all there was to do was to put the heat sink into the host, screw the top of the host on and light it up.. Pretty easy build! :)

The dot
Because it's a singlemode diode and i have used an acrylic lens this laser got a fantastic round dot (porn for my eyes :san:)

LPM

This test was done with my Bluefan 2W Basic LPM. The test was really stable. After waiting for 40-55 seconds i got a stable reading (the one seen on the picture). After having it on for about 3 minutes the power only went down to 240mW)

Power: 245mW

And if you're wondering why i'm using 2x 9v batteries, it's because the power of them was at only 5V each so it couldn't turn on the LPM so i connected them together and got some more power out of them :)

Good build. Did you use all three pins of the diode ?

Yup nice work! Looks like you used celotape though on the pins? If you did, heatshrink would have been better as tape will eventually come off... and +1

I agree that heatshrink is superior but at the same time as long as you position the wires correctly and the pins are sufficiently spaced the wires shouldn't move inside the complete laser so I wouldn't expect them to get an opportunity to short. That is as long as you don't make it a habit to drop your laser....

Anyway, nice build bro. If you enjoy the laser enough I would suggest upgrading the lens to a 650nm 3-element glass lens. You can grab them for cheap from DTR's shop HERE.

Thanks! :)

I actually came across a seller on Ebay who was selling an aixiz case with a 3-element for cheap. But unfortunately that was after ordering all my stuff :/, but i might buy it soon :)

Nice build man :)

As they said above me ^^ heatshrink would have been better.

^^^The driver should already be installed on the pill (hence the SUPER long leads coming from the host). it was a C6 kit from Moh and i believe his C6 kits came with a 1.8A driver iirc but not sure if thats the kit that was used.

Where are the driver ? And nice build ;)

That's correct, it was in the C6 kit. And no it isn't 1.8A  (that would kill it x3). I actually forgot to mention it in the review, but it is 478mA :)

i knew it wouldnt be a 1.8A, that would be for a 445nm build. i didnt see that driver option back in Moh's FS thread.....i missed out i guess :scowl:

Nice build! +1
I am currently building a 650nm myself, and im using Sugru hacking puddy instead of heatshrink. Sugru is like silly puddy, but it cures into a tough, flexible silicon overnight. Bonds to pretty much everything. I've used it to repair charge cables, insulate wires, make custom grips, ect. It has thousands of uses.
