RC buggy advice

I am looking to buy a brushless, RTR setup. DO you know of, or have any experience with Redcat? The Backdraft 8E to be precise. The price point is excellent. It comes with brushless motor and ESC with two LiPo batts, charger,
and radio for $300 shipped. Sounds good to me. Or should I spend the extra money upfront and just go with say, the E-REVO for example?

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Well im not really up to speed with newer buggies, but i recently just bought a tamiya frog re-release to go with my >20 year old frog :D.

Anyhow, if it doesnt have to be a buggy, go for a traxxas slash. you can get so many upgrades for them its awesome! i believe they are like $300-$350, then go to hobbyking and find a compatible brushless motor.
although these things are fast even without the brushless motor :D. im hopefully going to get one someday.

Screw the buggy, get something like this:

that plane looks lame as crap lol .. a dual edf parkjet is cooler
and btw dont waste your money on electric buggy's get nitro way faster
 
It is lame, but that plus the pusher config makes it a great choice for a beginner to learn with.
You can easily cut some ailerons, add a servo and make it fully maneuvrable.

Nitro is messy, noisy, expensive both in maintenance and running....
 
not that expensive for buggy's
you only need to use water/towel or something to clean it
and maybe some wd-40 for the glow ring or w/e its called
and if you stay up late at night
you can find good deals on buggy's
that go for like half the normal price


and building your own plane is funner..( ??<< :P )

@TTerbo. I already have a slash. It is kind of beat up and I don't want to put more money into it. When it was new out of the box it could reach speeds of 25-30mph.

@ anselm. At some point I would like to get a plane. At this point, I have no experience with airplanes. Right now I would like a buggy, or something similar, to take out and play with my son.

@ bluuray. While I am not a veteran with RC cars, I might disagree with you on the speed issue. Brushless electrics have come a long way. The Backdraft 8E hits between 50 & 55mph out of the box. I have seen videos of other brushless units on youtube exceeding well over 100mph. Now I know nitros will also do this, but, nitros require a bit of experience as far as keeping your motor running well and I have never had a nitro. At $300, you would be hard pressed to get that kind of performance from a nitro.

Really I was wondering if you have had any experience with the company "Redcat".

If I had the money, I would buy an E-REVO with the Castle Creations Mamba set up. If you have time, check out some of the videos on youtube. The E-REVO will do 90+mph. There is a video of one driving along at about 10-15 mph and when the driver gives it full throttle the thing literally jumps off the ground and does a backflip, lands on its wheels and drives away! That is some tremendous torque!

I have an E Revo and love it, I have the 2 speed transmisson. Not many Redcats around my area.

You just had to include the TREX in the pic!? Nice, I am jealous. Are you able to do any aerobatics with your chopper? I have the Blade mcx and the msr.

How long have you had your revo? What motor do you use? I would love to have a REVO but I want to have a buggy by the time summer gets here and i wouldn't be able to come up with sufficient funds for the REVO so I think I am getting the Backdraft. The Backdraft is to RC cars what the 445nm diode is to lasers. Sure it has some flaws, but I will be able to look past them I think.

The T Rex is hard to fly for me, I have 3 smaller helis and have no problems flying them. A friend of mine is great at it, he can make it do anything.
My Revo I have had for about a year and a half, I am running 2 Titan 550's that came with it. It is fast enough with those. My smaller projects are on hold since I just bought a new/used truck, all of my extra money is going to add goodies to it.

NICE! I love those nostalgic buggies! I recently was interested in buying a buggy that I had as a young man. It was the Turbo Optima. I say this in the past tense because when I found them on ebay for 1200-$1800, I couldn't justify that kind of money for a 20+ year old unit. I would like to see more pics if it is not too much trouble.
