I am currecntly looking into getting my first 405nm high-power laser.

Anyone know why the 250mw laser is only $5 more expensive than the 200mw?

If I buy the 250mw should I expect a shorter lifespan of the laser?

Does rayfoss use acrylic or glass lenses?
 





Not the best choice IMO. For that kind of money, you could build or have built, a very nice 405nm laser, at around 200-250mW.
 
Dont buy it. That laser does not have a focusing lens. You will be missing out on all the fun. Wait for something in your price range to show up in the buy and sell thread. Or have one built for you.

Exactly, without being able to focus it, you just have a high powered laser POINTER not a high powered laser BURNER.....granted you have a beam....and yeah, for the same price, you could make a 250mw laser, if not a BETTER one if you try hard enough. :yh:

What are you talking about? It says "Dot size is adjustable by turning the torch head."

Sounds like it focuses to me

I was basing my assumption based off of the mrad measurement. Usually (as far as I've seen) when it's ajustable, the mrad will have a number then '(ajustable)' next to it. But when I look at other lasers on there site, it still has it WITHOUT 'ajustable' next to the mrad...hmm...I think you're right, it probably is ajustable, pay the extra $5 for it I guess, or make your own the way YOU want it =] OR you can pay $290 for a 12X laser and get 500-600mw... I BELIEVE...but that's $130 over your original price for the 250mw you're looking at....your choice =P

It is focusable.

I have the 100mW version, and it is totally waterproof (to shallow depths).


However, for that price, I don't believe it would be easy to build a waterproof one (that focuses). So it appears to be a god buy.
But, beware, check that all the o-ring seals are tight before going swimming with it. :cool:
 
Cool buy! It is running a SF-AW210 at 180mA though, which is on the high side for that diode, so you will need to use shorter duty cycles to keep the life long. I have an SF running at 177mA putting out 230mW with a G-1! I really do like those diodes, even more than the GGW!

Hopefully it comes with the lens assembly. But, if you have ever seen the inside of one of these, you would wonder how you would press-fit a DIY LOC or GGW with driver and spring into it. :thinking:
 
I've asked for inside pics a couple of times or even a cutaway but they won't respond. The lip to press fit a module is really low in there isn't it?
