Using the pen host from Radio Shacks' green laser pointer, i put together a
nice red pen laser. The driver is a trimmed down AMC7135 350mA driver and
the host uses the usual 2AAA's it was made for. The diode is a LOC from a
22X burner and the module is capped of with a AR coated glass lens from Aixiz.
Now, a word about the diode. The diode used is the incredibly small 3.6mm
style diode. This was pulled from a LightScibe 22X DVD burner with direct
disc labeling(internal model). Stay away from this drive unless you would like
the challenge of using one of these diodes.
To make this diode work i found what basically was a small brass bushing of
sorts with the correct inside and outside diameters that made it basically an
adapter ring for the diode. With the laser defocused on the wall i can see it
is slighlty off center but nothing to go nuts over, it still burns fine and has a
flawless beam!
