Hello, I want to buy a 532nm green ebay laser for $99. I asked the seller for the power output and he said that it is 400mw laser, he even sent a picture of it being measured on a power meter. Here's the link to the laser:

Should I trust this seller? Is that a good price for a laser of that power? And how bright is a 400mw 532nm laser, compared to lets say a 1000mw 445nm laser.

Don't expect decent quality for that power at that price. Some of that power is also likely IR output. These cheap Chinese lasers are hit or miss, usually miss if you ask me... It may work great out of the box, it may not. It may work great for 3 days and then shit the bed. That's the risk with these.

As for brightness, the beam will be about 4x as bright as 1W 445, the dot will be about 10x as bright. A half watt of 532nm is ridiculously bright.

-A 400mw 532nm laser should be considerably brighter than a 1W 445nm laser in the day, and moderately brighter at night.
As for the listing, it might or might not be legit. It's encouraging that the seller sent you the picture of a test at least. I only wonder how much of that output might be IR.
 
With the 532nm diodes they produce a lot of ir. If it doesn't have a ir filter the ir is being measured also. You might want to ask him if there's a ir filter. The price doesn't sound that bad, can't speak to the quality though. ( I'm thinking about aprox 1/4 of the output would be ir )~~~~~ edit, looks like people answered while I was typing, oh well , I type slow.

That sellers output claim may a bit optimistic. He shows the laser being LPM'ed by holding it way too close (IMO) to the sensor.
I've seen this practice more often than not when sellers are showing "proof" of their lasers output. Between this and the IR, as diachi pointed out, you probably won't getting what you expect.

Some extra distance might not hurt, but remember, the actual sensor surface will be recessed into the actual sensor "head" some too, so the distance is larger than it first appears. :)

Thanks for the help guys, I did send a message asking if it has an IR filter, but I doubt it does, ebay lasers never do.
Where can I buy a good quality 400mw green laser pointer that is most affordable? Besides ebay of course.

Take a look at Jet Lasers or LaserBTB for 532s, or Sanwu for a 520.
 
There was a post about a month or two ago about another member who got a 400mW 532 for around $100. I was very bright and he said it was brighter than his WL Kryton and burn very well too.

There is a chance that this could be a 400mW but if it is I'm thinking they might just be pushing the module to hard. It's definitely a risk and if you don't have the cash to lose I wouldn't try it.

i have the same laser as u, was my first buy from them still works like a charm 2 years later, treat it good and it will last many years, laserbtb makes some of the best lasers, u probably overran it and burned the diode and the fact that u trust some seller on ebay makes it even worse usually laserbtb lasers are crazy overspec i can imagine their 400mW easy peak over 500mW or so.. if u dont trust them fine, then buy from jetlasers then, 532nm if u want a true 400mW laser it costs alot more then 100$ i can tell u that.. unless u want to gamble but u will never get a laser of same quality then from a companies that are well known here.

I followed the rules and didn't keep it on for longer than needed. I have no idea why it went dim. But I am trying to work things out with the seller. My cheap purple ebay lasers still work lol.

Chubby fingers, meant nm's not mm's or maybe I can blame it on auto correct :D-----edit, confused , Wait a minute, I did write nm's , the wave length is 532 nm's is it not ? and they do produce a lot of ir. What am I missing ? :thinking:
