PS3 sled markings

I have just started a batch of Blue ray pointers........

...,.And have discovered a marking on the LD bracket, I have
1 Black
1 Red
2 Greens
2 No marking

I am wondering if it is a grading mark....

I have built the drivers, they are fitted and tested....6 out of 6 working fine

Wow! I got two with blue and one with black AND green. :-?

I haven't done anything with them yet because I don't have all the parts yet.

.... I know which are which, When I can get them all switched on together I will see if the marks have any meaning, some brighter than others? who knows.....although, if it is a quality mark it is not neccessarily to do with the blue LD, it could refer to the IR or the red.....

OK the results are in, using the 7805,  constant voltage regulator, to get 40ma out I used the following resistors:-

1 Black  22ohm
1 Red    22ohm
2 Greens  10 ohm
2 No marking  1@ 6ohm & 1@ 1ohm

So it looks like the colours may mean something. :-/

Well, you can still measure the voltages across each of them. They all are at 40mA, but the voltages will obviously be different, and this info could be useful.

Some of them may be capable of more. I'm receiving some more sleds soon, so any info is appreciated.

I have been doing some testing and the 2 with no markings are very freaky, the one that I put 1ohm in is at exactly 40ma @ 5v....
The one at 6ohms is very bright and didn't start to lase until about 40ma, If I wind it any higher it starts to grab more current (remember this is constant voltage) @ 6ohms it is not at its brightest but the current stays constant.

I always knew these blue rays were variable, current/voltage-wise, but never realised until now by just how much.

Yeah.. With current regulation they are much easier to handle. No guess work. Sometimes they are so different, that it would seem more than just one type of diode was used. Some are definitely WAY more powerful than others.

So if i understand correctly, you set them all to the same current, or did you tweak them for the brightness as well?

If they are all at the same current, it would be nice to know which marking yielded which power.

When I started this thread I had set all the drivers with a dummy load.
I wanted to be sure, so when I connected up the LD's I tested again and changed the values to suit, so they are all, but 1, lase point plus 10ma.
I will not be selling the odd one

Another thing to note is that the wavelengths may be different also, varying with the different voltages!

I was just recently wondering about this too. But I don't see markings on the bracket, some of them don't have any on that, but on the flat bracket you take off with the 2 screws so you can pop the diode out.

I've seen coloured markings there and sometimes it looks like a '0' or some lines. I'll have to check later on the results to see if there's any rhyme or reason to them. Maybe they correspond to the lase point which is what I was suspecting. Since some seem to lase at 21, 28, or sometimes 41.

Got my first one today and it has a red marking too... hopefully is a good indicator (???)

Hmm, doesn't seem to match any logic. With the colour on the cover I mentioned earlier and not the diode bracket you show:

1 black dot & 1 blue dot = lase @ 22
1 black line & 1 blue line = lase @ 24
1 red line & 1 green circle = lase @ 38
1 green circle = lase @ 40
2 black lines = lase @ 42

Thanks for taking the time to check them up... any difference in the mW's?
