Wait, is the middle position of the hammer not enough for it to pass some safety standards or whatever?

And as far as I understand, Chinese copies are actually quite good and worth having, since they are basically following original designs closely.

It's a stupid importation rule- I think all pistols must have some type of safety, either passive (i.e. Glock), or manual- i.e. horrific aftermarket Tokarev safety :)

They require import markings also- when you see a non-import marked weapon for sale, usually it's brought back by a soldier- the last war that resulted in bringbacks was Vietnam- they don't allow it anymore (though I don't doubt it still happens in a quieter manner).

Chinese weapons are interesting- the commerical copies (mass produced for sale abroad) are pretty junky, but their military issue stuff is quite nice! I used to own a commerical Tokarev 213 also- side by side you can see the fit and finish on the Type 54 military was far superior.

But, Tokarev has safety function, when you pul back the hammer into middle position, as I said, you cannot pull the trigger nor the slide, you must pull the hammer all the way down to be able to fire.

Now, could you please explain to me passive and manual safeties? I'm not familiar with those.
 
A Manual safety is like the switch on the side of a Beretta 92 or Colt 1911- you have to flip it on or off.
A passive safety is like the Glock trigger- it's there, it locks the trigger, but it turns off when you pull the trigger without a separate action.

The Tokarev hammer is a 'half-cock' safety. It's not considered a safety here.

Oh it's not considered as safety mechanism? Too bad, I mean when in this position it's impossible to fire and everything. Tokarev also has a mechanism which blocks the trigger when magazine is not in the gun, so any chambered rounds do not go off accidentaly.

But hey, in all honestly, it never hurts to have additional manual safety installed, even if it maybe looks a little ugly afterwards. After all, your target does not care what the gun looks like when it's fired at them.

More safety, the better, right?

Just finished up my own Saiga 12ga conversion a few weeks back. I've run 100 12ga slugs through it so far, and it's looking good.

I hope you bought your parts before the buying frenzy started. $300 for standard bolt/carrier sets?!?! No thanks!

I didn't but I don't think I overpaid much, if at all. My BCG came from Bravo Company and it was less than $200. I got lucky and checked the website during the 15 minute time period they were in stock. Members are selling USED ones for $300+ at ar15.com. I've seen new ones for around $450.
 
Here's my recently purchased Arsenal SLR-106FR. It's kind of quirky for an AK in the fact that it shoots 5.56mmx45 Nato rather than the usual 7.62mm. Sucks since I need to compete with all the AR15 people for expensive ammo. Right now it seems to be sold out nearly everywhere unless it's super overpriced. I still need to take it out for some actual target practice. I've been putting it off lately due to the horrible weather lol. It has a collapsible stock and I actually got some 30 round mags pretty cheaply for it.

How expensive are 5.56mm rounds over there?

Also, not sure if simply the camera flash gives it off that way but the furniture on the gun looks like some cheap plastic. It's not, is it?

It's basically the same composite material as the black kind, but a different color. It's quite durable from what I can tell.
 
Heh, I dunno but I'd prefer it black. I mean it's a gun. It's designed to kill people. It should at least look dangerous.

On the other hand, transparent magazines are brutally cool.

If it takes 5.56 rounds, will it accept STANAG magazines? I don't know how to tell that from a picture.
