Re: GB ROUND 2 OPEN for 10W RF EXCITED CO2 LASERS!

Mike what type of sensor heads are you using?and I might have said already but I did get a scientech 362 meter its on its way any way :) thumb finally healed lol ;D   Oh Disma nice video it sounded like the benadryl were still in the bottle ;D

Re: GB ROUND 2 OPEN for 10W RF EXCITED CO2 LASERS!

My thermal sensor heads are from Scientech BUT --- I forgot that they are rated for 10 watts MAX ...............

Re: GB ROUND 2 OPEN for 10W RF EXCITED CO2 LASERS!

ok I was thinking of making one out a 127 peltier with copper or aluminum with some type of black coating and a heatsink Like Chris was talking about I dont know for sure if that would work with a 10 watt laser :-?

Re: GB ROUND 2 OPEN for 10W RF EXCITED CO2 LASERS!

NS --

You will need heavy heatsinking on the back of the peltier array and paint the front with black high temp paint. calibration may be a problem but I love my 362 analog meter.

Re: GB ROUND 2 OPEN for 10W RF EXCITED CO2 LASERS!

LOL, they are! ;D I needed something for a fast test, and the benadryll was the first thing I saw. I got some more lt battery's to take apart, so far I found 9 more good 18650s. These are "us18650s" though. Maybe if I can come up with enough to make a pack with 4p8s it will run it at the correct voltage.

Re: GB ROUND 2 OPEN for 10W RF EXCITED CO2 LASERS!

4P8S is a bunch and could be bad news to charge in this grouping. If it works, you got the power ;D

Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER

does any body know about the znsn lens what im try to ask is if we can collminate these to burn at long distance without costing toooo much :D

Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER

I am taking this build very slow as I am pretty green in this field and I want to make sure I find the right solution to everything before I start hacking away. Fortunately there are several fellow members in this thread that really seem to know their stuff!

Anyway, I'm trying to get smart on batteries as I'm trying to design a portable version of this laser. I'm looking at either a couple of inexpensive gels (,$30)like they use in electric scooters and atv's, or a bunch of Li ions built as a pack. The gels are relatively large (~6"x3x3) and and heavy, while the Li-ions would fit nicely into the butt stock or trigger handle of the "gun" and add little appreciable weight. What I'm not sure of is how to build a Li-ion pack - specifically:

1. What would be the best way to wire them together? I saw mention of a 4p8s configuration - I assume that means 4 in parallel and 8 in series. How is this done?

2. If I go with the Li-ions, should  I have  a protection circuit and will they have to be recharged individually or can I fashion a charger that will charge them all as a pack?

3. I assume my best bet for Li-ions would be fully charged 18650's. I read that they use Ni cads in portable defibrillators which run at around 10 amps or so - would they be a reasonable choice?

4. As far as gel cells, what kind/model would offer the most bang for the buck?

Thanks. Any input will definitely be appreciated!

Spikec ---

We're all trying to figure this out. Keep us posted on your results. My batch od 18650's did not arrive today :(
What are you using for a power source now?

Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER

Mike,

I have a Power One opencase 28v 10a that I bought on ebay. Until I get it encased I don't want to mess with it because those big mother capacitors scare the crap out of me. Nightstick put me onto a "safer" looking Lambda which I'm trying to find now so I can get it up and running.

Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER

just dont tough those caps you will be fine ;D

Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER

when you go from lasers rated in mWatts to WATTS, you ain't in Kansas anymore.

Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER

come on guys make some awesome videos of these beasts! ;D

Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER

HEY -- Join the CO2 club and make smoke ;D Who cares about videos :o you can't see anything through that much smoke.
These work and are impressive.

Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER

thats fo sure there is disma's video a page back of the bottle burn I gonna see tomorrow if my boy will help me put a video of various burns then Chris will sell some lasers I would like another one for back up maybe Chris will do some trades with me :)

Re: OUTRIGHT BUY! 15W RF EXCITED CO2 BURNING LASER

hey Mike I guess that paint will hold up to this laser on a very short burn? :o
