Re: GB LIVE & OPEN for Small RF 5-10W CO2 LASERS!

NS --

Are you a HAM and do you understand RF, SWR etc?

Mike -- WA0BMP

Super -- we have some here who understand capacitive reactance.
The interaction between the exciter, antenna and ground.

Re: GB LIVE & OPEN for Small RF 5-10W CO2 LASERS!

I wonder what frequency it runs at. ::)

Re: GB LIVE & OPEN for Small RF 5-10W CO2 LASERS!

Chris says 27 MHz .  I don't know, I forgot to measure it.  That center loaded split dipole antenna on the tube would indicate higher but that is a crazy load. It is intended to create high voltage nodes to ignite the plasma.
NS got a taste of the HV :o

Re: GB LIVE & OPEN for Small RF 5-10W CO2 LASERS!

You know, its about the right size for a center loaded 10meter antenna isnt it. LOL, key up the 10 meter rig, and burn a hole in the wall accidentally... ;D

Re: GB LIVE & OPEN for Small RF 5-10W CO2 LASERS!

I haven't been on 10 M for years........ Still that dipole looks short for 10M. Chris and I were discussing 1/16 wavelength.

Re: GB LIVE & OPEN for Small RF 5-10W CO2 LASERS!

ya, its hard to say what all the added parts do to the tuning of it. The rectangular metal pieces and the close proximity to the base portion would lower the frequency some I would suppose due to the added capacitance... :)
mounting this in ANY kind of container is going to effect the tuning. I hope not so much that it needs to be re-tuned.
I think the best case material would need to be made from polypropylene or polyethylene, that would have the least effect on the tuning.

Re: GB LIVE & OPEN for Small RF 5-10W CO2 LASERS!

You got it !! That's why keeping those ground planes from interacting may be important. We'll know more later. Limit the capacitive reactance between the two.

Re: GB LIVE & OPEN for Small RF 5-10W CO2 LASERS!

Actually, when I first saw it, I thought it might be in the 49mhz band somewhere... You have a freq. counter don't you? :-?

Re: GB LIVE & OPEN for Small RF 5-10W CO2 LASERS!

I have a freq counter but never thought about using it. Sorry :(
Some CO2 lasers are driven by 6 meter exciters. I'll measure it as soon as I get my PWM done and off the bench.

Re: GB LIVE & OPEN for Small RF 5-10W CO2 LASERS!

Cool NS! Thats 3 of us so far, I bet there are more here as well. ::)
I used to have one of those little hand held led readout ones, but got rid of it a long time ago.

Re: GB LIVE & OPEN for Small RF 5-10W CO2 LASERS!

its 27.119 acording to my radio shack freq counter

Re: GB LIVE & OPEN for Small RF 5-10W CO2 LASERS!

lol! The c.b.r's are gonna love us! ;D Not to mention the old lady next door with rabbit ears on her t.v. [smiley=laugh.gif] COOL! I bet you can use a CB/10m swr meter on it! Maybe?! :o Now this is really getting interesting! You could build in the swr meter in the case of the laser, it would tell you power input also.
