Well, drive manufacturers are limited by what power diodes diode manufacturers are willing to offer as "reliable"...
When someone comes out with the next generation diode, they give the diode prototypes to drive manufacturers to make sled prototypes with, and both then advance to full production...
The other drive manufacturer could be using the same diode or a diode of same or similar power ratings from another diode manufacturer...
But if you are wondering about the RATINGS of the first 12x diodes, i believe they will be 150mW CW / 300mW Pulsed, as mentioned on some charts LarryDWF found and posted..
The 12x's that will go to more than two layers will then need a 225/450mW diode....
there used to be a point and time when plextor was the god of all burners. Unparalleled speeds, reliability, buffer, compatibility etc... now that's not the case. I used to love pulling apart plextors for the diodes. Now however, I won't even touch them.
