PL-E Pro 473

Current draw is 2.32A bypassing the tail cap entirety.

Current draw through tail cap and dongle is 2.2A. So a 120mA decrease.

Divergence is good at 1.04 mRad. (Beam at 0m is 2mm, at 5.7912m 8mm)

What are you looking for as far as Regulation Quality? Just what I think about it or is there a way to measure it?
 





As in: how much does the current change relative to input voltage.
This is where a power supply would come in handy :)

What is the voltage drop on the tail cap?
 
I do have a dc power supply. Tell me how I should set it up and what to do and I can get that for you. Didnt measure voltage. Will get back to you on that.
 
Current draw from my PS is 2.5A at 4.2V. Cant measure across the dongle because of the only way I can hook it up. Voltage drop appears to only be 10mV. Does that sound right? Seems like it would be a higher number.

Middle is your 450nm. 473 to the left and 405 to the right. 450 just looks white though and way overpowers the others.
 
Yes, that is what I was looking for - thanks. That is poor regulation, but I've definitely seen worse.
 
Nice review! That's some high power peaks you got out of it, what power was it sold as?
 
That depends on the driver type. Identical current draw over the battery voltage range is expected for a linear driver. For a switching type, current should increase as voltage decreases.

That is because this is the first time that JL has offered any 473nm lasers- i think the plan was to NOT do this until they could offer us both quality and a good price so IMHO JL gets 10 for 10 on both- go to laserglow and see what they want for a 473 that is not as powerful but several 100$ more in proce

Okay i cannot tell you why but..
The first time I fired up an argon- fogged the room then turned on some 532 green the color by eye GREATLY shifted to yellow from green- and not just a little- it was VERY yellow- turn off the Argon and the green went back to 'normal' so Speddy's pics may be showing something like this.

next time I do a maintanence run of my argons I will take some pics and see if this is true only to our eyes but also in photos..

ALSO I was wondering how the graphs provided by Gray compared with the one you posted?? nice pics and a +3 rep thread if I ever saw one.. I will have two here soon to test- meter measure and post some additional results.

I am actually happy that JL waited so long- the Pro host is a big improvement and this price is unheard of.

The graph I got from Gray was very similar. Not as many spikes and jumps but it was on a laserbee and I know my Ophir has a faster refresh rate? Not sure if that's the right term or not but you get the picture.
 
The dragon lasers DPSS ones aren't great, they are known to be under spec.

Jetlasers has a good reputation.
 
Rather than start a new thread, I sincerely hope Speedy78 doesn't mind me sharing my PL-E Pro 473nm experience here at the end of his... his pics are waaaay better anyway :)

So yeah - my PL-E Pro came today from JetLasers!! w00t w00t!

First impressions:
  • The packaging was quite nice. Each individual part of the host and the remote switch were separately sealed in antistatic wrapping. The entire unit was in a plastic snap case with padding.
  • The unit came with warranty papers and an LPM graph showing duty cycle between 77mW and 86mW (remember this is a 10-30mW unit as ordered)
  • The host construction was awesome. I think Speedy78 did a great job highlighting this in his write-up, but I was impressed with the overall look/feel of the unit.
  • The color is spectacular. Those of you that have 473's can vouch, but this was my first "up close and personal" with one and... well... wow.
  • The beam is thin and "crisp". I don't know a handy way to measure divergence, but I'm quite impressed with this little gem.

Gray with JetLasers was awesome to work with in the process. In fact, I have absolutely nothing negative to say or comment on other than I ordered an A/C PL-E Pro adapter with this unit and it didn't make it in the box. I'm sure it was just an oversight and we'll get it sorted out. Other than that nitpick, this was a perfect transaction and highly recommend this laser to LPF members looking for a great value on a 473nm handheld.

ps. hakzaw1 was awesome about getting me quick and affordable access to extra batteries AND some good insight on JetLasers in general. o7 Salute to him as well.

Here is my new baby... I'll save the best for last.

My PL-E Pro 10-30mW 473nm JetLaser averaged over 110mW for the full minute I was measuring with a peak of 129mW!!

Oh yeah, baby!

Nice!!! For divergence I used a calculator I found online. Measure the beam at 0 meters. Then measure the beam at a distance and throw it into the calculator and viola.

The color is amazing. You know what my wife said when I showed her?
"Its just another blue laser"

Now I know you're not supossed to hit a woman but...

I kid I kid.
