*PICS ADDED!!* Sipik 98 4 Amp Flashlight Mod!

Nice! Thanks for the data. :)

If you can get your hands on a 4.35V li-ions and a special charger you might be able to push it a little further.

Excellent idea! I hadnt thought of those, will have a look around thanks! 5 A here we come!

I actually prefer the Green GITD because if glows so much brighter and longer! now I really want to order another and change it over to the copper disk XM-L2 and direct drive it but maybe us the East-092 driver I've got. does the Sipik have a glass lens? or is it plastic? also can you remove it because in these ultrafire's I can't get the lens out of the bezel.

IIRC its a resin lens on the 98 and a plastic one on the 68 and no you cant remove it, well without a hammer anyway.:p It looks like mine is glued in.

Make sure you heat sink it well. I dont think the little Alu pill on its own would be enough for a direct drive. As I mentioned it gets quite hot quite quickly and thats at 4 A with a big block of copper! ;)

Edit: I never managed to get hold of one of the East drivers, would you let us know how well it works and what current it pulls on direct drive?:)

I could always see if Jeff could hollow the aluminum pill and where the old aluminum was fill it with copper and make a place for the driver to rest and smaller holes for the wires to go though. Shouldn't be that much work!

Yeah I will just haven't used it yet myself, its still in the package!

Thats exactly what I did above, but if you have access to a lathe (ie Jeff ;)) youd be better off just making an all copper pill with a couple of holes for the wire. You could even make it really basic ie a 20 mm rod section with a thread. That would work much more effectively too.

Edit: Sorry light slides on the pill so should just make a copper pill!

yeah that's what I was worried about the light not sliding properly if I make a pill out of copper. i'd have to talk to jeff about it and see what he thinks. now you really got me wanting to do this! so you used a 20mm star? and what emitted did you go with I'm thinking XM-L2 U2 or something.

Haha glad to hear it! Yup 20 mm emitter and a XM-L2 T6. I hadent yet received my XM-L2 U2's from illumination supply at that point...Also bought the mechanic solder paste from fasttech if you need any. I believe DX sells it too?

already got the solder paste but am looking into getting a solder/reflow station which would make this just a lot easier! did you solder the Emitter to the pill or just use thermal adhesive?

I soldered the copper star to the copper rod and let it cool, as I was still testing and trying to get everything to fit ie sanding etc. Once I was ready I took the whole assembly added paste to the contacts and then soldered the emitter on. To solder it on I just heated the base of the copper rod at the other end of the emitter. It didnt affect the solder joint between the rod and star, but I was careful not to knock it!

Hey for all the Flashlight people Crelant has put the MT-G2 in a new light the 7G10! hmm maybe that emitter for the next mod? :)

You can get that light for $137.99 from md-lightsource with coupon code 7g10! I so need one!!

I just read what IE wrote and he seemed to think it was really under driven. If at 3 A the MT-G2 is putting out nearly double what the XML's do, I think it might be worth while to have a go at modding it - imagine 3600 Lumens...:eg:

Edit: Did I mention I zoomed my modded Sipik light onto my LPM and got way in excess of 500 mW!! Its now officially a class 4 light!:tinfoil:
