PC PSU into a Lab PSU

I used a LD1084 because it can handle 5 amps of draw and has lower voltage dropout than the LM series.

I also used a ceramic plate resistor (10ohm, >10watt) thermally glue'd to a heatsink.

ok thanks

Ooh, heres a pic and some links :)

thankyou i found those in the thread already they helped allot i was just making sure before i place my order at digikey that there wasn't a higher amp ic i should/could use

this project seems like its gonna be fun maybe find myself a cool enclosure and all

BTW if anyone is planning on building one but needs a psu i have 1 pm me. im not trying to sell it. but if you need it why not

EDIT: where did you get that resistor from i cant find any like it on digikey

I got all my parts through Jib77, he ordered them for me from Mouser :)

i cant find the resister on mouser ill just use a wire wound thanks for all the help ill be sure to post when im done +1 bud:D

Thanks :)

Btw, Wirewound resistors have higher inductance so I would reccomend you get a metal-film or similar :)

I wouldn't call myself a genius in the field of electronics either :)

Anyways, lets just keep it simple :D Look for a metal film resistor or similar ;)

Looks good I'm about done I decided not to wait and just use the lm117's untill there was more stuff I needed to order mind if I post a tutorial later today? I'LL mention all your help .......

Cool I will once I get my new DMM heh I posted some pics in my DMM thread for ya

HOLY SH!T im am driving my self insane i bought a new dmm from sears and i checed my circuit so my voltage regulator is working but for some reason when i try to measur amps i get like a .12 ma reading even strait of the output from the psu i do have the 10 ohm 10 watt resistor across the red(5v) and ground

any advice this worked perfect when i bread boarded it
