I build a nice little direct driven flashlight with these LED's last night. Pretty similar to the build Moh did.

I took a focusing head Cree Q5 flashlight.

I took the pill out and mounted a stack of ground down dimes and used some thermal adhesive to get good thermal contact. Then I took the cut down LED wired it through two holes I made in the corners and used some more thermal adhesive to attach the LED to the dimes. Be aware the LED is case positive so you will need to make the host case positive or you will short it.

Wired it to the contact board on the bottom of the pill.

Then I put it back together.

I used a A123 18650 LiFePo4 cell.

Put the battery in negative end in first.

Then I fired it up. Bright as hell.

Half focused

Wide beam.

It gets pretty warm but I have run it past 60 seconds without any fluctuation in the output and the heat seems to be moving very well though the host body.:D

Wow, that's nice. I think that is the cleanest build Iv'e seen yet utilizing the phlatlight :gj:

Nice. 1000 lumens of green

I heard those non-red PT-54's aren't cheap, either.

It was pretty cheap... Maybe $30 or $40 bucks.

I have the parts to the build linked in that thread I linked! :)

Oh, that's not bad. :) We spend more on that for laser diodes :D

The a-230 is the widescreen version of the A-130. Just like the A-240 is the wide version of the A-140. They all have the same diodes anyway.

Just a heads up. I ordered the last 10 of these today for myself. It will be a month or two before they are back in stock if they become available again.
