Laserglow Pointer GB

I've been kicking this idea around for a while, and was recently spurred by the fact that LPF will soon celebrate it's fifth anniversary. This is a scaled down version of the artwork that nikokapo helped with:

Sample engraved pointers from Laserglow:

To get them to engrave a one-off pointer, you must pay for the cost of the laser, pay a $20 setup fee and a $10 engraving fee, and pay for shipping. This brings the cost of a single engraved Lyra B5 to $103 shipped to the US. A GB brings that price way down.

That being said, the engraving is not necessarily required to be a part of the GB. We do need at least ten pointers in the GB to be able to move forward, however.

The Pointers (Prices include PayPal fees and shipping to anywhere in the world.)

Re: Feeler: Engraved LPF Z-Bolt Pointers

I love Z-bolt's BTE 2S.
It's an awesome pointer and an awesome host if you can get one!

Divergence is usually ok. 1.1mRad seems accurate. Beam quality and stability is good. Beam alignment is typically not the best, though.

Updated the OP.

RA_Pierce: I didn't actually add you to the list since you didn't say so. Chime in if you do want one. :)

Re: GB: Engraved LPF Z-Bolt Pointers!

Well, there's not much interest. We have two options.

1) We can go ahead with it and get them for ~$55 shipped in the continental US.

-or-

2) Call it off?

Re: GB: Engraved LPF Z-Bolt Pointers!

Okay, so we have a new development. I spoke with Justin over at Laserglow about engraving. As it turns out, they do it!

If we were able to get 10 orders of the 5mW Lyras, we could get free engraving, bringing my cost per unit to $51.60. Factor in shipping and it would be ~$58 shipped for a 5mW Lyra!

Here's example Justin gave me of Laserglow's engraving:

Laserglow delivers superb quality - is anyone interested in making the move over to them? Anyone have any particular attachment to Z-Bolt?

Re: GB: Engraved LPF Laserglow Pointers?

Are they really just 5mW, or is that a conservative estimate for the purpose of selling them in the US etc?

LG is completely on the up-and-up as far as I know, so yes - should be 5mW.

Re: GB: Engraved LPF Laserglow Pointers?

I have asked LG several times for a Aquarius engraved like they once did a trail on, and they never wanted to do it. I think the engraving can be really attractive. I did polish the brass where the paint was laser-ed off, but it's easy to do.

sorry about pic quality, I need to take another pic.:yabbem:

Re: GB: Engraved LPF Laserglow Pointers?

I really like the idea, but I'm not so sure I would want one that low on the mw. Good luck with this though. It's a good idea, hopefully we can try something like this again but with a higher output laser.

Re: GB: Engraved LPF Laserglow Pointers?

I guess that was a little non specific wasn't it. For a pointer style, I would be much more interested in something in the > 30 mw range.
