OK.... I'll give it a try... (but I am completely satisfied with my FF)...
I just downloaded it..

BTW will Opera Run on all windows platforms...
Win95... Win 98...ME....Win2K Pro....XP...

Be sure to try mouse gestures. I don't know how my life would be without them :p
It makes my browsing experience 200% faster, seriously.

I'm sure it'll run on every platform. I'm currently using it on Vista.

yay! It will run on every windows since windows 95 IF you have the windows installer correctly updated.

There are also versions for Linux, Linux x86, Mac, Solaris, FreeBSD, QNX and BeOS

About what Niko just said, I for example only use the buttons combinations gestures (hold right and click left for back, or hold left and click right for advance), but I recomend you the quick find and the search as you type features. I really couldn't browse the net properly without them...

It's rather debatable, good sir. Visually the speed difference is unnoticeable. I'm definitely not seeing the 40% faster they're claiming. Perhaps in their wildest dreams and/or benchmark tests.

I compared it going to all the sites I frequent. There's little or no difference that I can tell, and definitely not enough to justify switching browsers. Most features you posted I could not care less about.

Also, no, you cannot configure Opera's speed dial to take up the entire width of the page as you can on FF speed dial.

Until Opera can physically serve me a dish of fettuccine alfredo, there's no reason for me to use it.

Note: I'm not saying Opera isn't good (it is), I'm just saying there isn't a good enough reason to switch.

anyway, warm boots are still the same, it's just a warm boot with many many tabs opened where there's a 15-20% difference (it's not that much lol)

And as I alredy said, this is a matter of default configs, for default chrome is configured to use more cache than opera and so it can load faster when many tabs are opened, configure opera to use more cache and you will get similar results as well.

Keep in mind that comparing the loading time in FF and opera requires you to do it at the 3rd or 4th load. What you just discovered is that Opera loads for the first time as fast as FF the 999 time, when it have half page cached lol

And aboutt the speed dial size, does that really matter? Well, it's obvious that it matter for you, but It's just a style problem I guess since it works just the same way!

I already thought of that :p The speeds are just too similar for it to matter at all, and yes, the speed dial size does matter. The situation is no different than if you had an actual page that was small and centered like that. You would not enjoy that now would you? :p GF, sir.

Just some feedback for you and for the others who still use other browsers, you can't imagine what an advantage Opera is. I didn't spend those 20 min as Hallucynogenyc said, because I am convinced and I know I won't be disappointed with the results.

I used to use computers when it was dos 2.0 to 5.0 remember that 1988
my computer is a lousey 40 gig xp 4600 i am happy

Well, if you don't care about the loading speed, there are still a lot of features that will boost your navigation (mouse gestures, Opera turbo...), and others that will still save your time (opera mail, Irc client, integrated translator...) so I think after all if you give it a larger chance you'll discover it's benefits.

Well, there was a day in which you switched to XP right? As I said, you'll only need 20~ minutes to decide if you want to change or not, so give it a chance!

No, I mean I didn't spend those 20 min. What didn't you understand? It's simple, I didn't spend those min just because I knew I wouldn't be disappointed! Now you got it?

I still don't understand it. If you downloaded and tried it you spent those 20 minutes at least!
 
I will be staying a Chrome supporter, I suspect, for the following reasons:

Chrome is cleaner, has a less cluttered "out of the box" theme, and "lighter" feeling
Page load times in real-world situations feel identical to each other
The interface of GMail feels better in Chrome
Chrome's omnibox beats the seperate boxes of Opera
"Speed Dial" is the same to me as Control-T.
The tabs-on-top concept of Chrome is more appealing to me.

It might also be the time I've spent using it, but Chrome's URL prediction is simpler and tidier than Opera's. To be honest, I like my browsers to work out of the box, without requiring extensive customisations to get it how I like it, and for me Chrome ticks all the boxes.

On the other hand, I agree 100% that it's better than IE, and maybe now I'm at the stage of saying it beats Firefox as well - it's staying installed on my desktop, at the very least. Maybe one day I could grow to love it, but not until it has the same feel and function as Chrome.

It's logic than gmail loads better on chrome than in Opera since they are both from Google, anyway you won't need to load the Gmail page with Opera, as for the other things you mentioned, they are just preferences of the own user, for me Opera looks cleaner and better ;)

As for the tabs on the top, you can hide the menu bar by clicking in file->show menu bar to get a similar efect.

Regarding the fact that maybe Opera needs a bit of customizations to work the way you want, well, maybe it's just a matter of which default settings you prefer and maybe I would need to customize chrome to work the way I like, and I'm sure that you would need to spend not more than 5 minutes to find and change the options needed to make it the way you like.

A part from that, I guess you haven't tested the 10 features I listed on the first post since you didn't talk about them. Could you please try those features and then tell me?

On the other hand, I admit that Chrome is the only browser that I like a part from Opera, but IMO, a year of development still doesn't beat the 15 years Opera has taken to be developed ;)
