That is a very good lens for 405nm it has one of the best beam patterns avab today and more power than the acrillic type ;)
I only use an xacto knife to open the back of my acrillic lens's but I do screw the lens into one of my lens holders look in this thread:http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs-laser-tools-44115.html

I've found the craft knife or scapel approach rather successful. I think most go for the, 'Pie Slice', option and cut straight from the cetre to the edges in a radial pattern then snip out the sections. I personally start in the middle with the very tip of a scalpel and remove the plastic in a spiral shape until I reach the outside. You have to be careful not to damage the lens but with only shaving the inside of a spiral this doesn't exert as much pressure on the blade and therefore you can afford to be right at the tip and well clear of the lens.

The glass lens is going to be necessary soon though. If you're up to a x6 then it won't be long until you're wanting a x8 and for those, acrylic just won't do. Jayrob and Larry??? both do the glass lens option for the Aixiz and there is this thread - http://laserpointerforums.com/f44/new-type-module-includes-famouse-405-g1-lens-50147.html - linking to a module with that lens included. O-like do a 405nm coated glass lens also but the gains are not as impressive as the others mentioned.

In short, to get good gains, you gotta go glass!

Ok ccol, thanks. I'll get a glass lens.

I think I'll have to get the Ebay lens. Because I have a Ehgemus host that has a special threaded focusing ring. So I'll need the entire lens body to have threads. Is there a difference in the lenses besides the threading pattern?

This is what I'm talking about. This lens is from my 650nm LOC build.

The last couple of batches of the AixiZ 405 glass lens I've gotten have all been only 1/2 threaded.

Are these coming with the full length threads now?

I'm not talking about the diameter or thread pitch. I referring to the length of the lens nut. Mine are only threaded on the "rear" 1/2 of the lens nut. The front half is smooth and a smaller diameter. It couldn't screw into your focus adapter

^Got some a week or so ago and they were all fully threaded. All bar one had the larger aperture that I think you mentioned somewhere not too long ago. I'm guessing you're a heavier user than I, so maybe you'd be the first to see any changes. Those half threaded ones look just like the O-like 405nm glass housings. Do they have the rubber O-ring too? Not good if we can't put a focus ring on.M:)

Yeah -- The 405 glass from AixiZ.
Yes -- They have the o-ring
No -- the current focus rings will not work with them (unless you epoxy them in place, I guess)
I would imagine that O-Like and AixiZ are using the same supplier

I recently built a 445nm laser pointer. I purchase a Aixis 405 glass lens from ebay but it was full of dust so I used my lens cleaner from my camera to clean it. Like an idiot I did not write down the order of how this thing is assembled. There is two lens a spacer and a locking screw. I know which lens goes where but does the spacer go between the lenses or at the very end where the locking ring goes?

The easiest method by far is a paring knife, press the knife in the hole at a grazing angle to cut the plastic to the outer threaded part than peel it out. 99% of the time it goes smoothly and leaves a nice clean aperature.

FWIW I noticed the 405nm glass lenses were full of dust inside too.
