open can or closed can?

I read an article and can't find it now, that stated a 'term' used for the effect / advantage using an open can diode, vs a closed can. Anyone else read similar, if so what was it called?

It was the "*" effect. Bong resin from high school has impaired my memory ;)

No more than 300mA. That should give you 200mW. But this is the MAX. A safe current would be 250mA.[/quote]
280mA is also a safe current for the StoneTek diodes.

I've noticed that the open can dot is fuller whereas the dot from a long closed can from the 4x BluRay sled [GBW-H10N] is slightly darker on one half. Both were run at the same current +- 5mA. My long closed can handled a continuous run time of over 2 hours and shows no damage what so ever. Melted the lens though...

I'm running the Sony 16x red that I bought from StoneTek @ 350mA, it seems to be doing OK. It's in a Aixiz module, powered with a rckstr driver & 4 NiMh AAAs.

It's all packed in a little Radio Shack plastic enclosure - my first build! ;)

Finally sent my lasers off to Kenom for testing on his LPM ;) The 22x is running ~ 450mA and really burns great, can't wait to see the output reading 8-)

My Senkat diode just died at 350mA... I'm not sure exactly if it is dead because it just won't turn on. Isn't it supposed to look really dim when it dies?

Ya... It is.
Check the connections...
