My local dollar store sells the exact same thing with batteries and 42 different aperture screw-on diffraction lenses and keychain all contained in a cheap plastic compartmentalized case, they sell them in black, gold, silver and blue barrel; cost $1.00. Cheap as all heck both in build quality and price, but they really do work. I bought a few months ago as a novelty and just pulled out one of the kits after seeing this post, and yep it's still works; they only come in Red though, no green ones at the local store.  :-?
