Hey guys... Sorry it's been a long time since my flee from the forum. Kind of watched as my life exploded. Depression is a bitch. Anyway.... that's the past and I'll be trying to make good for it. Not why I'm posting this. I'm curious now what's the good stable 445nm laser diode now and the best place to buy things like that. Wanna help an old timer out?

Oh and I've got a lathe now and am building light sabers... LOL

Thanks. I'm kind of excited to get back into building lasers.

Welcome back! I came back for the first time since about 2010 myself (though I doubt you'd remember me lol). A lot has changed in the hobby, that's for sure! Good to see you, Ken!

Welcome back, glad you can put that behind you. DTR's Laser Shop is probably the best place for us to get diodes. By stable, do you mean mode-wise? If so, the most powerful single mode blue diodes are 450nm ones that can be found at DTRs shop, they can be pushed to around 250mW. Not sure if the one that's RATED 250mw is single mode, I hope so. Also the most powerful single mode diode we can get easily is the16X 405nm diode, again also available at DTR's Shop. It's around 1W, excellent burner. Sorry I can't post links, internet's being iffy for me.

well, by stable I meant non flakey diodes. There were a bunch of diodes out there when I left that were all over the board for output power. one diode at 900ma output 700mw, and a different one was outputting 1.2W at the same current. I am really liking the NUBM44 diode.. looks good.

Ah, yep the NUMB44s are incredibly strong and from what I remember tough too, however their main drawback is divergence and heat output really. So I guess it depends on if yer a person who likes big hosts or small, prefers divergence or power.

DTR is the source these days. You can also try Lazeerer but it takes time for a reply.

oops gabe already said

Great to see two "old timers" posting here. Welcome back and nice to meet you! :)
Sorry about the depression. Hope life and your feelings are better for you now.
What type of lathe do you have? With the angle cuts and such you have there in the picture it seems like a pretty decent machine.

it's just a typical 7x14" metal lathe. Quick Change tool post, and a plethera of tools for it.

Hey Kenom,

Welcome back, any plans on finishing the Kryton Beast project?

I hadn't really considered it, but now that I've my own machine, I probably could. Just have to find those that are interested. Right now, I'm having more fun building the light sabers that are vapes.
