Hey everyone i just wanted to do a quick review of Odicforces new boost driver that they are selling HERE. (should this go in review thread?)

anyways they're about the size of a groove, 10x15mm which is awesome because they fit in the pills of so many smaller size hosts. hooked up to test load of 8 diodes giving Vdrop of 5.58 and powered by a regulated PS with selectable voltage set at 4.5 (in reality 4.1 under load) yeilding 372-380-something max current over 1ohm resistor. I will mention that crappy PS only can handle about 7 watt output, so considering this is a boost driver, maybe current limit was due to PS not providing enough current. will test once i dig up my selectable PS good for 2A current.

rofl... as if

i dont work for them nor am i affiliated. but sure go ahead say watever you want buddy boy. maybe this forum could use some info on alternative products so there is VARIETY in our builds. Maybe someone else knew about these and made a post, maybe no one has (thats why i posted)

I wish they would get together a driver with higher current though. Their boost drivers are fairly resistant to paralleling (in my experience). So you're effectively limited to using them for powering a RED diode, or for under-powering a 12x.

With all of the driver options they have available, I'm not sure why they don't have a single boost option for running 445s. It would seem to be an absolute no-brainer.

I just might use this for my 635 build. Hmmm. How long did it take to ship to USA?

They took about 2-3 weeks to Canada, for what that's worth.

You might be better off with one of the cheaper odicforce 1.2v dropout drivers. They have a few for around $4

@rhd

Well, i wouldnt call 400mA underpowering it, its more like ultra long life power. i dont have any way of measuring it but from all the graphs i;ve seen even at these drivers limits, you are still getting half a watt of power (from the laser). I believe jayrob runs one of his 12x's at 380ish which seems about the limit of these things

edit: also, i think Odicforce wants to supply lower priced drivers and being that the only low price 445 capable of 1A or more seems to be the olike ones (sold else where but its the same driver) and that one seems to not be able to live up to its 1.2A promise plus its case positive which isnt good for those wanting to do flashlight host builds.

Remember, this is boost only. Your 635 is 2.7V.

Peace,
dave

Good observation.

I don't want to wait for it to be shipped anyway. I'll just wait for dr lava to restock =\

I talked to him. Re-supply may be as much as a month away yet

Peace,
