O-Like 400mW Green Laser Torch *Overspec*

I agree with InfinitusEquitas.

Shipping one of those red lasers back to them, your shipping charges are likely to be more than 50% of the cost of the red laser.

And, just speaking for myself, I don't think I am perceptive enough to see the difference between a 190mw and a 250mw red laser.

And, I assume you are not trying to burn with it.

As for me, I would not bother sending it back. I'd eat the cheat, or ask Susie for a credit.

Other people may differ...

And, I assume you are not trying to burn with it.

Well, the thing is, that I am actually trying to burn with it...

The fact is that originally, I wanted to buy the 'Cute' 300mw they used to sell. But when I came to place my order, these just ran out of stock so I had to settle for the 'Cute' 250mw and now this laser is underspec...
:yabbem:

You wouldn't see all that much difference in burning between 190mW and 220mW... which is what is spec for the 250mW cutie... on o-like always look at the lowest number.

To see drastic improvement you would need to go up to 500mW+ of 405 or 445... i mean to burn stuff.

I can't understand why o-like advertise their lasers as Xmw, spec says it's > than Y (while Y is lower than X) and actual output is Z, which is the lowest of all.

Do they think that people are dumb?

Do they think that people won't return lasers?

returning laser = > $50 in shipping fees
measuring the actual output = > $300 LMP which only a few ppl have

returning laser = > $50 in shipping fees
measuring the actual output = > $300 LMP which only a few ppl have

Returning laser = < $10 in shipping fees for me.

Measuring the actual output = $150 LMP which I have.

So I returned the green and maybe I'll return the red.

aha sorry about the lpm number :P
but im just implying that most ppl wont wanna go through all the hassel and stuff

I am following my returned laser's journey back to Susie.

Yesterday, I checked the tracking status and it says: Unsuccessful delivey.

I assume that the reason is that the postman came and there was nobody at the office. Noway I misstyped the adrress since I copied & pasted it and printed it.

What do you think?

Should I wait few more days (maybe the status will change) or should I email Susie immediately and tell her to check about that?

I just received mine today, after the usual long delay from my postal system.

Still had no time for seriously test it, just made a pair of checks.

Output power unfiltered, around 410mW, with a brand new, fresh charged protected battery (i had to ask Susie to send it in 2 different packages, for avoid confiscation from custom offices, and the battery that usually came with the laser was missed, but i have like 8 or 10 of them around, so this is not really a problem, for me).

IR output (filtering away all the green with a pass-IR filter), 35mW (that for this power is not really bad, i have to admit) ..... adveritsed as >350mW in the specs, so also taking out the IR part, it's still on-spec, a little bit overspec in fact.

It heat discretely fast, so i limited the tests to one minute on / one minute off times, both the diode part AND the battery heat at the same rate, this unit perhaps take a lot of current from the battery, i need to check also this.

Mode: horribly constantly changing, with practically no possibility to guess what's happening (i mean, the mode is constantly hopping from several different schemes, every one or two seconds) ..... surely NOT TEM00 as declared :p ..... i'm wondering if i reach to enlarge it enough and filter my webcam, to make a short video and post it, cause is difficult to explain it in words.

This last one, at the moment, is the only "con" part i've seen, but as i said, still had no time for check it completely.

@snoutke

I would give it another day before doing anything. My first delivery was also refused, but it was an attempted saturday delivery.

@HIMNL9

I keep mine to a 90 second duty cycle at most. RA_Pierce ran his for 4 minutes without a problem though.

Mine does mode hop as well, but not terribly.

I did notice the same issue with both battery and diode area heating up... in fact battery seems to warm faster on mine than the diode. This has been noted by other people with high power greens as well.

Well, if it's powered from a 2W diode as they say, it's almost normal, i suppose ..... i mean, it must be near 2A current eater ..... poor battery :p :D

EDIT: i made a short video and loaded it on megaupload (avi format), for the mode-hopping thing ..... not too clear, but there's not too much to do, i have turned all the camera sensitivity to zero, and also added a 50% ND filter in front of it, and defocused the beam in a large spot, but still it saturate the CCD.

@ HIMNL9 about ( Mode: horribly constantly changing )

I will try to make a video aswel the beam is solid but it mode hops a LOT lol it's kinda funny to see.
And yes with my batt full i maybe have a runtime of 20 min maybe even less...

Update:

According to tracking number, my underspec returned laser had been received at O-like's office on June 2nd, 2011. So I emailed Susie about that and here is her reply:

"Hello Sir

We will check and then arrange replacment reshipment

Thanks
Susie"

What can you understand from this, considering the fact that currently they are out of stock with the 400mW Green Laser Torch?
