NUBM44 diode in copper module from DTR with 4.5amp driver in an Eghemus host

tmp_14517-2015-09-03 01.36.52-342622601.jpgOk, I have had this new diode for a few days, and it amazes me how well the host dissapates the heat, at the most the host gets mildly warm very evenly spread over the top of the host. This is impressive and a testiment to ehgemus's design considering how much heat the combination of the heatsink and the diode produce.

To compare this diode to others I have for anyone interested in it and as I was not familiar what 6watts plus would look like in the real world, it is very much like comparing the difference between my m140 diode at 2 watts to my NDB7A75 diode at 3.5 watts. When I first got my m140 I was using 301 lasers and it absolutely amazed me, it happened again with the NDB7A75 , and finally once again the sheer power of the NABM44 has awed me with its power. I guess that's why we love lasers and build them, they are amazing and to think so much power is possible in a handheld.

nice build I have an Eghemus host too and I was considering a similar build. I was wondering what is the diameter of the head of your host, and did you just solder the wires up or did you manage to thermal paste the driver to the inside.

I did solder the wires, but I was having problems with the thermal paste, so I asked Jordan from DTR what to use. Artic alumina was what was suggested. It's a two part thermal adhesive, and your going to need to pin the driver up against the heat sink with something until the adhesive sets. I didnt have any clamps small enough and I didn't want to use alligator clips because I was afraid to damage the driver, so I took a bunch of heat shrink tubing and bundle it up and slide it into the gap. It worked and I was able to remove it easily and the thermal adhesive is rock solid.

I will measure the head for you tomorrow, there is a special heatsink that you thermal paste to the main heatsink that the driver is pasted to.

I measured the width of the top of the host , it is 1.5 inches across.

Awesome build. Not sure how tight the compartment was. I usually just hold the driver on with my finger for a few minutes and that usually gives it enough hold to let it set by itself and then let set for another 45 minutes to an hour before attempting to power but if there was not enough clearance to do that sound like you found a good solution.:beer:

Ditto. It sets probably 80-90% in 5 minutes. In about a minute, it sets enough to stop holding it.

I did the same with both my NUBM44, my first NUBM07E, and will be doing the same with my other NUBM07E. It works very well. I also use Arctic Alumina as well.
