hey jay what is the o ring for? i was a little confused when i received the hat sink

Take a look at my tutorial of the build:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1213338268/0

There is a picture of the o-ring placement. It is a spacer that acts as a 'cushion' which holds everything tight, when you screw the host together to the head...

Re: F.S. Mini 'Pocket Pal' Blu-ray Lasers! - 90mW'

thanks i didnt end up using mine. my hosts are slightly different and instead of that weird screw mine has another piece of aluminum with threads so it gets it very tight

Re: F.S. Mini 'Pocket Pal' Blu-ray Lasers! - 90mW'

Yeah... the heatsinks are designed specifically for the sku 46 host. But hey! Glad you got it to work with a different one! :)

Thanks again

Re: F.S. Mini 'Pocket Pal' Blu-ray Lasers! - 90mW'

yes sir! i confidently run one of my builds at 190ma with your heat sink and love it! its also the laser that i use with my spirograph so as you can imagine it gets quite a bit of use and pretty lengthy duty cycles!

(its not hard to lose track of time when staring at a spirograph) :)

I saw that thread of yours with the great pictures. Good job on that spirograph! 8-)

Mike B., I got your Pocket Pal blu-ray done! 8-)

Measuring 101mW's on my Coherent PM5200 meter. It will be in Monday's mail. Please let me know when you get it!

this might have been asked before, but what are those rubber things you put on the focus knowb. they look like tailcaps, do DX have them in that size.

They are tail caps. You have to cut out the little "nub" inside them to use as module caps.

Peace,

i like to use the glow in the dark ones for the blue rays so you know if they are on or not :)

they also double as a flashlight that way

Here's the link to them:

You just turn it 'inside out', and cut the little 'nub' off.

Re: F.S. 'Pocket Pal' Blu-ray Lasers! - Over 100mW

technosean, I got your awesome Meredith glass Pocket Pal done!

I was wondering when someone was going to order one with a Meredith glass lens...

Sean Casey 10-1-08.jpg

You will notice that with the Meredith build, the heatsink protrudes out the front just a hair more. (about 1/16") The Meredith module is a little bit longer than the 'business end' of an AixiZ. So I made the heatsink a little longer in order to still have the same room inside the host.

Man! I wanted to keep this one so bad!

Nice diode in there... very steady 122mW's at 126mA's through the Meredith glass lens. (Coherent PowerMax 5200) Normally, I would expect a nice one to give about 116mW's at this current. But yours is HOT!

Shipping tomorrow! :) (Wednesday)
Jay

P.S. Just to let you know that if you unscrew the tail cap to change the batteries, you may notice a little 'greasy' substance. Not to worry... It's just some dielectric tune up grease that I have gotten into a habit of using on the contact points of the battery holder and also the tail cap threads.

Re: F.S. 'Pocket Pal' Blu-ray Lasers! - Over 100mW

I think I might try to make one myself caus there is no way I can afford your build. I'm sure it is worth it, but I would really like to do it myself (sure, I will probably screw up several times during the build but it is worth it :D)

I happen to have that flashligt, the exact same one (the host) so I'll be using that one (got it for like 2 bucks).

What I now need to get is all the other stuff. Still what I will want from you is the heatsink and maybe a glass lens as well. I will take a closer look on all the parts later. It would be so awesome if I just could buy a heatsink from you. Of course you have to decide if you would like to make one for me  :)

Edit: I think I will order like 3 or 5 of those flashlites from deal extreme
becaus I am not sure my has the same diameter. My seems to be somewhat thicker and it does not have the spring connector but another thingy. But before I order anything form dealextreme I would  like to know if I could buy 3 heatsinks from you.

Can anyone tell me where I can get the Aixis acryllic lens?
Can anyone link to the diode caus this one does not look like the ones I've seen?
I'm sorry if I am a pain but I am a noob and want to make sure that I get the right stuff.
THANX :D

Re: F.S. 'Pocket Pal' Blu-ray Lasers! - Over 100mW

There are several 'look alike' hosts. If you know for sure that yours is the VicLight host that I am showing here. Then I have the heatsink design. I also have the heatsink design for the DX sku 46 host.

A heatsink for either one is $23 dollars plus $3 dollars for shipping and handling. For 3, the shipping is still $3 dollars total.

You can get the AixiZ module from Stonetek.org, or get a 10 pack here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/12-X-30mm-laser...6856927QQihZ002QQcategoryZ53141QQcmdZViewItem

The PHR-803T diodes are here:
http://daedallasers.com/lasers/laser-sleds/phr-803t.html

Do not use the AixiZ glass lens for a blu-ray. Use the AixiZ acrylic with plastic cut away:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1207011306/24#29

If you want to spend the money for a Meredith glass lens, you will need the 5.6mm adapter as well. Here's Meredith's site:
http://www.mi-lasers.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?search=action&keywords=diode_optics

Here's the FlexDrive:
http://hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_diode/Micro_FlexDrive.php

After you know exactly which hosts, and which modules you will use (the AixiZ and the Meredith are different sizes), just let me know, and I can make the heatsinks for you...

Re: F.S. 'Pocket Pal' Blu-ray Lasers! - Over 100mW

Awesome! ;D
I will buy the DX sku 46 host. And the AixiZ module I think. Haven't understood the difference really except that The meredith is more expensive and results in a somewhat better output.

I got one question that I want to make clear for myself before ordering anything.
Picture in attachment...

The red square is the heatsink. The green square is the diode but what is around the diode is this the top of the aixiz module? is the lens located in that "thing"?

Sorry if theese are stupid questions, I have tried finding answers here and on other places but I can't figure everything out :-?

Re: F.S. 'Pocket Pal' Blu-ray Lasers! - Over 100mW

that is completely correct. with this host you also do not use the bottom half of the aixiz.

also the focus ring is not pictured in this picture but it screws onto the lense that screws into the front of the module
