Hi everyone:beer:

I have a Sony Handycam HDR-SR11 that has nightshot mode to record in 0lux. This nightvision is only good for about 10feet.

I've been seeing these youtube videos where people attach their cams to the scope on their gun and with an IR laser, have an awesome setup for night time hunting. If you do a youtube search for "synpercat" you'll see what I mean. She uses it for shooting rats at night. I also live on a farm and wish to do the same.

She is using a 200mw 808nm focusable IR laser. I would love to get this same one, but am having trouble finding it.

I live in the US and I've tried ordering from websites over-seas, but was told I could not because of US customs.

I found this on ebay -
808nm 200mw CW Infrared Laser Diode Module Kit / Focusing Lens - Burning/Cutting | eBay

Seems to be a complete kit for building one, and the seller is right here in the US.

Ok - I'm sorry for this lengthy post, but I'm hoping for some help here.
Should I buy this? Is this what I'm looking for?

If not, does anyone know where I can get one with out spending a lot?

Am I better off buying a kit elsewhere?

Thanks for any advice!

Try buying one off of someone on the forum, someone reputable of course.
That usually is the best deal in terms of cost and shipping time. I'm sure
someone has one laying around, not including myself. Good luck. ;)

Thanks for the reply. I'll take a look.

In the mean time, have you or any one else checked out the ebay link I posted? What are your thoughts on that?

I have a night vision device that uses an IR LED. Many day/night security cams have IR LEDs that come on at dusk. The IR LED is a better option as it will light a wide area whereas the laser, even defocused, would light a comparatively narrow area. It would be cheap and easy for you to try LEDs first and see if they work for you.

hmmm...another led suggestion. I will look into it. Thank you.

yes, i would love to light up a wide area, but at the same time, i'd really like to achieve some decent distance.

are there IR led flashlights that can achieve both? any suggestions on where to buy one?

I don't know how to make this stuff. I'd prefer to buy one here in the US too.

Thanks for the link Soren. Seems like a good find, but I wonder if they'd ship to the US. Another UK company I tried ordering from said they cannot ship anything to the US that's over a certain strength..i forgot what it was but it was low.
I emailed this place you linked to and asked them about shipping this to the US. I'll let you know what they say. Thanks again.
