Nixie Watch!

G'day,

So being a nixie fan i look for cool nixie units that are available, so when i was surfing the net, i found a guy in Australia who designs and makes nixie watch's from scratch!

Now there is also another mob who sell them on Cathode Corner or CC for short,
but they don't have as much technology packed into the watch and are bigger in size.

Here's their version:

Here is the watch i bought:

As you can see this one has 470nm blue leds to back light the tubes which i love!

The size is a couple mm smaller in diameter and height.

The Wrist band is silicone and has some nice stainless pieces in it.

It has a built in motion sensor which when enabled will detect when you put your hand over the watch, but triggers on the trailing edge so only once your hand is clear of the watch it will display the time! It uses a IR LED's and a photo diode.

The battery will last about 1 year or so with 50 views per day.

It has a 11 option menu you can access with the 2 buttons ontop of the watch.

display hours then minutes.
or
hours, minutes, and seconds.
or
hours minutes and show seconds for 5 seconds

This was on a eBay, the bloke who sells them makes about 1 per month, they goto auction and sell between $1,000 and the most i saw was $2,000.

They are expensive, I paid $1,675 for mine.

for about that amount..... but it won't fit on my arm...

I'm sure Iv'e said it in one of your other threads about nixie's, but I think the blue led's detract from the vintage look of the nixie's.

Like having a high end in car entertainment system in a classic car.

But with niche items like this, it really is each to thier own.

Like Jerry said, my oh my those miniature nixie's are beyond cool.

Yeah there's been a few enthusiasts say the same thing, but personal preference is yours!
And i just love the look of 470nm

A couple of real flashes from the past...

First picture: Top - Vintage Russian OCXO nixie frequency counter, TTL-based. It is measuring a 435MHz -11dBm signal in this pic. Bottom - Russian compensational digital RF voltmeter. The RF head contains a special vacuum diode detector in metal-ceramic enclosure, with heater filament, etc.

Second picture: Again Russian, RF signal generator /0.3-1.2GHz, +10dBm to -109dBm in 1dB steps/.
All of these are built with TTL and ECL logic ICs. I have no idea why they made them with nixies because even at the time they were designed /late 70s, mid 80s/, LEDs were quite popular and abundant
