What about using a Lasorb( assuming pangolin has one for this 9mm)
they are cheap insurance IMHO-
I will find the answer to that asap.
so far it looks like they have one for the Nichia 5201W I also cannot say these are or are not needed-
make your on call--

LASORB datasheets
There are several standard LASORB formulations — optimized for IR, Red, Blue and BLU-RAY laser diode use, as well as series-connected strings and QCLs. Click to download PDF versions of the LASORB datasheets:
Datasheet of the L44-208-X series optimized for very sensitive Red and IR laser diodes
Datasheet of the L44-228-X series optimized for Red and IR laser diodes
Datasheet of the L44-392-X series optimized for high power Red diodes
Datasheet of the L44-916-X series optimized for Green laser diodes
Datasheet of the L44-683-X series optimized for Blue laser diodes
Datasheet of the L44-833-X series optimized for BLU-RAY laser diodes
Datasheet of the L44-2000-X series optimized for series-connected strings and Quantum Cascade Lasers
If a smaller package size is needed, the LASORB solution is also available as surface mount components, which can be integrated directly into your product design. This is ideal if you need to reduce space. Click here for a datasheet showing this option.
We can also provide custom LASORB formulations. LASORB has several degrees of freedom that we can tune to optimize the device to a particular laser diode operating voltage and modulation requirement. Please contact us for more information.
and SO FAR it seems this one:
Datasheet of the L44-916-X series optimized for Green laser diodes
and for the 9mm blues:
Datasheet of the L44-683-X series optimized for Blue laser diodes
IIRC you should solder these in line as close to the can as possible -
never used one yet so no personal experience --
would be the choice for the Nichia NDG 7475-520 green-
at less than $10 --why not?

at the Pangolin site the Lasorb page has a lot of general info and is well worth reading even if you have no need for Lasorbs--
