For pointers where most are maybe run a few hours in their life a decanned/recanned diode really is not a big issue as long as you keep the diode pocket free of particles and debris. Avoid taking the lens out reducing exposure to fresh oxygen, dust and air particles. Use high quality modules where the lens threading won't chip and flake down in the diode pocket. In applications where the laser will be running extended periods I would not even consider a decaned/recaned diode. Are they the Gball diodes? and if you decan them do they last?
