BowtieGuy had a good idea to get a M9 x 0.5 die to run the lens barrel through when they are slightly oversized, that's better than trying to open up the module especially if there's a diode already pressed in.
 





I must have missed that. It does sound like a good idea. Especially if it is a little tight. Might have to order a die now.

How would you hold the lens barrel to run through the die? As the G7 come with no slot cuts. Grind a few slots yourself? Wouldn't think though there would be much holding pressure needed as it would be probably a cleanup pass.:thinking:

Yes, it could be a little tough without slots, but as you said, there isn't usually much resistance unless the threads are really banged up badly; you could, like you also mentioned, cut or file some slots yourself if you had to.

Don't forget, if you're going to cut your own threads from scratch with the die, you'll need a handle for that particular sized die O.D.
 
I assume the one I received was missing the screwdriver slots, no problem as I can use it anyway and I can cut my own slots or drill tiny ice pick holes, I expect since we now know these are sanwu lenses that they will typically have screwdriver slots.

I would set the die on a flat table and start the lens carefully, maybe with a pair of hemo's or a screwdriver then run it in and then pick up off the table and run it through with a screwdriver, my example would get slots added by me although I expect they will typically have them.

Hi,
I think the seller only make one of kind builds so that the only one up for sale. If its a 5 mode driver they are usually used in flash lights not lasers . A bucking driver used would be one that DTR sells.

I was just going to say I thought it's a good deal but never thought or had a clue of it using a 5 position LED driver;). Has to be why it's a bit low at 1.5W even with the 3 element lens?? Is it at the limit of a driver made for LED's?
The finned sink is ok but just not enough solid mass for anything more powerful I would think..
I would think the mode switching would also give you fits after a while..

Yes from past threads about LED drivers used in driving a diode been a little funny. Maybe some one else could chime in about it. Not a bad looking host for a lower power build and the price as well.

the ebay listing says the number of units (lasers) sold so far is "14 units" so I was hoping one of those 14 customers was someone on this forum. I think I prefer a one-mode driver - just max power. Anyway, the seller has an overall very high rating which is good.
 
For $130 shipped its not bad and is it nice host..
Also have a few members that can most likely repair it if something were to go wrong:)
