nice find, look at this new diode block pattern, looks like it has 19diodes on it,this is pretty interesting as it could be the brightest projector out there

4.9w is a high factory rating, I wonder what they can really be pushed to ?

If the spot made by the GBall is a line to a rectangle less than 7mm x 35mm at 5 meters then it can be made to burn at 3 feet to 20 feet with a 3X beam expander, just empty out a 3 element barrel and use it to attach the 3X adaptor to the 12mm copper module you press the 9mm GBall diode into.

So far about 1 in 5 is useable like that, the other 80% not so much.

Wow!

19 diode block, Hopefully they are more powerful that the old NUBM44, Here’s were the B6 And M8 drivers will come in handy, And so cheap too!

That’s nearly a 100w bank, probably one of those huge NEC projectors!

If it weren't for the ball lens, these would be interesting to me. But, I just don't need a NUBM44 with a ball lens on it. Thanks for the link, though.

Good catch! Goota love the bang for the buck here. I, as well, wonder how hard it can be pushed. Bring on the heat sinks!!

19 diodes after extracting some, originally maybe 23 were in the block. All positioned pretty in a circle shape.
Such a block could be a good heart of a "Death Star" for even cutting metal if the beams were parallel and G-ball focuses homogeneous as RC mentioned...

Heatsinks - I would go for a big (square) Al box filled with ice! No more CO2 emission! Eco version cutter! We are good guys, are not we?

It looks like the missing 4 are factory omitted as the pockets are spotless clean from what I saw, it would make sense if it converges them all a bit.

It could be fun if we used a big positive meniscus, at least at short range. Maybe with the right pair of lenses you could adjust them back and forth to zoom the focal point, depending on FL and the length of your device could set the working range. Of course the uneven divergence will carry forward, but the GBall is a longer FL at least.

Those diodes are same as NUBM44 but canned. I also liked idea to focus all beams together in this bank. Would be nice metal cutter lol.

If we could get it all into a thin beam, or at least a workable hourglass like focal point with some depth, remember the output from the GBall is still an unevenly diverging spotlight of a beam.

Would be a burning clump more than a cutter of any kind really.

i don't see any problem to use a gball diode as it can be turned into focusable very easy without decanning,on my nubm08 build i used one g2 lens in front of the gball and after that a 3 element lens to get better divergence,im losing 1.5w of light due to 3 element but if you are just aiming to refocus your gball diode using 1 element lenses you will not lose more than 0.5w of light,i think its not even noticeable on the 6+w diodes.

So you used a G2 then a 3 element in front of the GBall, interesting.

We could put the GBall into a 12mm copper module then mounted in a heat sink inside a 12mm hole, but set the module back so that another 12mm copper end could be set in front of it to make use of the threads.

How far did you set your G2 in front of the GBall ? I suppose enough to mimic what the divergence would be normally for the 3 element to work with it.

The thing I see is more GBall diodes ahead, so we will need to be able to make use of them with the GBall can intact if we want long diode life.

Quite a while back I suggested we do basically the same thing and posted this drawing, but others said that it wouldn't work, I'm glad you gave it a try and I will do some more testing later.

i'll explain my thoughts and what i did with photos

this is a standard 12mm housing with heatink,i screwed the g2 lens barrel fully till the metal frame of the barrel make contact with gball's metal frame,i found out that focal lengh of the 1st lens doesn't matter at all as the colimated beam that exits the gball is perfect and very small in diameter on the first 2-3cm
this is the fully srewed barrer with the g2 on top of gball
attachment.php

this reverts the gball's focusing and you only have to use another lens and focus it as any other bare diode
this is the reverted output

after that i just used an empty m9x0.5 threaded barrel and screwed in a 3 element lens that i wanted(1 more standard 12mm modules could work also)
attachment.php

in front of it i screwed the sanwu's 3x beam expander adapter
attachment.php

by srewing in and out the front part you have a fully adjustable focus

and i always have the choice to stick the beam expander on it.
the only thing that have to worry is to have a very clean lens for the reverting beam part as the beam that exits the gball on this close distance is nearly perfectly focused and it burned a hole in the first lens after junk got in.

the diode runs very happy at 4.2A without any degradation with more that 10hours usage on it.

Since that gball so focuses the beam you could put a pinhole on those diodes right befor the expander for a super clean beam
