New Group Buys Scheduled for next week !

LOL !! I hear ya - I know who it was - and he is banned from all future Group buys, support from me, still has access to LPF, and NO - I am not saying who the guilty party is - Yeah, a little drama, perhaps, and I am sorry I put everyone through it all on my behalf. My family time is precious to me - I just need to find a good ballance between home and lasers - and not let the later take over the former :-) I hope that makes sense to all ? At any rate, I think everyone will be pleased with all the upcoming changes to the group buys I host - I think everything will be MUCH easier from now on out :-)

I'm new to lasers and all, but I'd love to be in on a GB and start to make my own lasers...it looks like a lot of fun!

I've already got my roomates and some friends interested in the possibility of a laser that can light matches, they all want one. ;D

I can't pst in the 16X GB thread because it was closed. Now that everyone had their 16X's, what is the consensus on the sustainable continuous output power that would allow weeks of output? We should start getting some data points together.

Great news, SenKat! keep in touch, I sent you a PM.

Guys - DROP it with the detective stuff, okay ? It does not matter who it was at this point - it is taken care of ! Thanks, though :)

Who was it? Me? I call Greg all the time... ;D

Anyway... good to hear about the new updates Greg :D That's excellent. I've got a couple orders you may be able to fill :P

There may be a few days' wait yet to go. The GB orders haven't yet arrived out here, so most likely, many are still looking in their mailboxes for the much anticipated arrival. :D I'm going to need to find myself a reliable source from which to calibrate the meter that I'm in the process of designing, but I'm still a ways off from having a viable power meter. I'd also love to see what others come up with from these diodes.

DrLava brings up a good point. How many mW for long term CW output ??
I have to say, "I don't know" because I've been pushing burning limits.

I'm going to guess based on my mA/mW curve that halfway down from the knee would be a good starting point for long term testing. That's about 175 mA producing 125 mW.
That is a guess only.

Mike

HAHA SenKat the laser pimp.
Thats gonna stick methinks... :P
any word on what other stuff your gonna be selling? some of the mi- lasers stuff i'd like to see a bit cheaper...
Also of you could find 635nm diodes cheaper than i did i'd buy them.

It sounds like a reasonable assumption, though these things are nearly impossible to test under real conditions. Even manufacturers guesstimate such numbers, usually extrapolated from more abusive tests. To confirm something like 10.000 hour life under given conditions takes a year to actually test.

I'm estimating 200 mA with decent (passive) heatsinking as a current suitable for use in pointers and such... but those applications rarely see over 100 hours of actual ontime.

Gonna keep everyone in suspense until all the details are ironed out - I don't want to over promise, and under deliver !
