new forum - positives

i understand moving to new system is going to take time to get used to.

to be honest my morale is low if just hearing all negatives about the site lol

is there anything u like more on new site?

for example, search feature is 100x better than before

IMHO once you take the skin away the site is great. It's fast, the search feature is quite good, and as more and more bugs get worked out it gets better and better. Change can be scary for anyone, so give it time and I'm sure more and more people will get used to it. I definitely wouldn't let it get you down. Given that the transition hasn't been the smoothest you guys are doing great!

The whole forum is faster imho, not just the search engine Although the previous forum tools were not bad, vBulletin is my personal favorite, as both (ex)admin and user @over 100 vBulletin-based sites.

I don't know why everyone's freaked over the skin - I like it (as long as you change the hyperlink color to something other than white!). Besides, they already have two to choose from and there's no reason why there won't be a few more to choose from down the road

there's a lot of features I like that weren't available on the previous SW, such as the number of people viewing a particular sub-forum, or the fact that the members on-line list is now sorted alphabetically. The friends/contacts feature that make it easier to see if someone's online and/or to PM them is also cool, imo.

Not to mention the ultra-flexibility of vBulletin from both the admin and member's point of view. It's just a question of tweaking all the setings, such as avitar sizes, max # of pms and what not.

Slowly but surely, amigo. In any event, LPF is still tops in terms of LP forums and I'm certain it will stay that way

I don't mind the new forum. It's basically just like CandlePowerForums with the blue and white theme. Don't let all the whining get you down. People just like to cry about change.

I'm so glad we replaced the crappy search feature. Another thing I really like is that the thread name is now included in the page title. Prior to this, every page had "Laser Pointer Forums - Discuss Lasers & Laser Pointers" as the title, which isn't very useful if you ask me!

On the whole, the new forum is definitely better. The only thing I dislike about the new forum is the theme, but that's because it's a bit hard on the eyes.

I just figured out there is a seperate style (skin) for the forum, and the default is SO much cleaner. I like the smaller font and everything is much more similar to the old style.

Me too bud. High Tech DealZ LLC is just me, had to hire a CPA to help me figure out all my past income though so I guess I've sort of hired a contractor.
