New DX 30mW Mini Metal case laser (CR123a)

Well it can be tweaked to 30mW.  If you use a external lens to focus the beam it will burn stuff.  The dot can be made more pinpoint via a external lens.  I am not claiming this to be a "burner" but compared to cheaper lasers it is much more solid and disipates heat better.  Obviously at ~80$ its not in the range of a burner without assistance but it will hold up to greater on times then a over tweaked pen laser.

If your sole purpose is to burn stuff without external optics, a solid laser will cost more but last longer.  I like this one because its small and amazing outside.  I am hesitant to show off burning lasers to anyone in person unless I have glasses for them too.  So I enjoy using it outdoors with friends and indoors I use optics with it or revert to my DIY reds for experiments.

perhaps later i will buy one of these lasers for show. if you were to compare these lasers to a differnet laser, how bright is it? can you see the beam indoors?

Yes

The beam is visible indoors in normal light. You can see dust and such in the beam and it has speckles in the beam indoors as it hits debris. The dot diameter is pretty small on a white wall and like any laser smaller on a black surface as there is no spatter or reflectivity. I will take some more pictures and post them soon.

As far as visual viewing, its beam is as bright as a ~100mW red. I have had both side by side and the BEAM is equally visible indoors. My red is a 2 piece lab and its not easy to relocate it. Remembering tho green is easier to see then red.

There are tons of lasers out there and I like this one and for its purpose its perfect, you may be seeking something in the 100mW range and if so there are many opinions here regarding those.

Wow, Razako I just spent about five minutes staring at your animation :o it just kept getting cooler and cooler.

Just received mine, much better than the DX30 in my opinion. Nice built quality and it works with CR123a :)

I just found this:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11047
It's really small and runs on CR123s. I think I might buy one. It looks better than the other "flashlight style" lasers, too, in my opinion.
It's also a Romisen laser so if it's like the others it should be good.
It looks like it could be waterproof too... It appears to have O rings in the pictures.
Only $21 not bad at all.

i saw that laser too, i couldnt decide which one i wanted, i chose the small one anyway, i heard there is some sort of issue with the clicky switch on that flashlight one, aparently it doesnt work right...

nice! i like the sound of that! what voltage of battery are you using?
i bought these batteries:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5406
but i dont even know if they're 3.6 or 3.0, it doesnt say anywhere, it was all i could afford with my $25 debit card.

could u take some pics/videos of your new laser? id like to see it..

o and btw can your laser burn at all? even the slightest sting?

No burning at all, the rechargeable battery's don't fully fit inside (a few tuns left on the screw cap) but its good enough. Works well with 3v primary's as well :)

Ill try get some photos later, really happy with it seeing as it was only $20 (which is a bargain imo)

i should be getting it next week! i cant wait! the only thing i dont like is the pressable button, i just hope its not like the pens, the button would get a bad connection when pushed, i prefer the clicky switches.

The button isnt that great, it sits to far down for my liking but it seems to be ok.

Are you the one review on dealextreme?

as many times as people tried to explain to me, i just never understood IR filters. i mean i know that it makes it so the IR doesnt come out in a cone shape, but doesnt it also make it less it burning powerful? does it actually block IR? or does it just make all the IR come out in a beam rather than a cone?
