New 9mm 445 diodes

Acetone works just fine, you just need to dip the lens and mount in for around 30 minutes and it will rubberize the glue, then crack one side of the mount and the lens will fall out or at least it does for me. I do it like this then clean the rest of the glue off with Acetone soaked cotton buds. So far all lenses have come out perfectly. Not sure if it has any effect on the coating as its almost invisible to see already. The lenses will give a reasonable beam spec too but then beam correction is also needed to get a rounder beam for use in projectors. You could defocus it a bit to get a rounder beam without too much trouble. DTR sells these with the lenses fitted at a reasonable price and so far these 9mm diodes are solid, easier to work with than 5.6mm diodes and dissipate more heat thru the base so they are actually while a little larger, they are much better to use than 5.6mm. I think DTR also sells some copper 9mm press fit mounts too that are perfect for the diode.

Well I just bought 2 of these 9mm diodes with the lens and free 12mm Copper Module fit for 9mm diodes with Aixiz style M9x0.5 lens threading. I will be pushing them with flexmod P3 drivers and should have them running in a few days after I get them from DTR. I will post results.:D

They are packed up and ready to go out in the morning.

DTR your the man, I have always been pleased with the service and products I have bought from you. Am I going to need anything else to install this diode into a heat sink and have an adjustable focus? I realize that I may have to solder some wires onto the diode but I am ok with that. If I am going to be running these with the flexmod p3 driver and I am going to use 2 cells should I be looking at some AW, IMR cells or other high draw capable cells?

Thanks

The modules I am giving away with these diodes are these from the group buy that had deep threading.

3.8mm & 9mm Copper Modules

If you are using a three element lens you can glue the focus ring a little higher on the threading and make it work but if you are using a single element lens you will have to do some fabrication. If you need three element lenses set up for it just let me know I can do some for you.:)

I would like to use the high quality glass lens that is comparable to the 405-g-2 that it comes with. I can do some mods if needed just let me know what I need to do. I want the most power so using the standard 3 element lens is out of the question

You are going to need a lens barrel for the lens that comes with it anyway. If you ask dave I am sure he can make one that is longer to work with this unit.

I am not signed up on that site, can you inquire about 2 of these for me? And let me pay you to have them sent to me even if it is a bit extra for your time? Is it easy to install the lens into them?

I undertand about the middle man thing. Otherwise will that unit that is on eBay fit the lens that is coming with these diodes? If so problem solved.

Yes it will fit the lens but with the modules that I am giving away with these it will be recessed into the module when fully focused so no focus ring unless you just send him a message either on eBay or through his website and ask him to make one that is 3-4mm longer. I am sure he could make one pretty quick so hopefully it would not take any longer to get.:)

I let the lens with the holder soak in acetone for 30min and it doesn't come out. I even try to push the lens out with a soft q-tip but that little bugger doesn't come out.
In the end I grasp two pliers at each end of the holder and twist it until the lens breaks free. The metal holder breaks easily under little twist.
Then I scrap the rest of the glue off with a sharp knife. The glue was become a little soft of the acetone.
All the time I was holding the bare lens with a tweezers at the edge. Just minimize the contact with the AR coating.

I had a lensbarrel with a broken lens. All the lenses and the spacer were removed.
This barrel has a thicker wall at some point in the inside. The new lens was resting on this thick wall with the flat side to the retainer ring. I suppose it will autocenter when I screw back the retainer ring.

The lens lens works perfectly with the 638nm diode. I can focus it to infinity. I didn't test it with a 445nm diode because I have a working 445nm laser yet. I will come back with the results of the 445nm diode.

Well I contacted that guy about making me a longer lens holder. He declined to help. I think I will still be able go manage. One more question I had though.... Am I going to have Debond the lens on my diodes like you guys are talking about?

Getting the lens off the diode is the easy part. Getting the lens out of the holder is a little more tricky but not too bad plus there were some good suggestions above for that.

Also I just got the 9mm modules from the group buy that have the correct length. I will be offering an option for the 9mm diodes pressed in these copper modules with leads and the lens still in the bracket will be on the side in a bag but if you just need a couple of the modules alone you can buy them as well just shoot me a PM.:)
