New 3.5w diode at work

Thanks. It is a beast of a laser, and a very fun build. I managed to do a few lame beam shots,,,

Rep +1 :beer: Great build ! I like the way the driver mounts in the heat sink and makes it a self-contained unit. I'm not so sure about the spring set-up on the battery contacts. I've had a lot of problems with voltage drop across springs. I like all the rest of it though :drool: I guess long as it works for you and you like it. That's all that matters :) That's why we build them ourselves :beer:

How would you compare the brightness to a standard 2.5W laser?

Thanks very much for the kind words.
I much prefer having the driver contained in the heatsink, as well as mounted rather then soldered. I love to experiment and decided to use a design that allows me to easily change any of the parts.
So far I have not had any problems with the springs, and am getting the same current as I do in my normal builds.
I am a happy camper as to how it turned out !!

The springs oddly enough never changed my current reading when measured at the tail cap. The voltage drop from my springs were only affecting the voltage to my battery monitor and driver. Honestly I would have never known it was doing it until I installed my battery monitor. Once they are assembled in their normal operating configuration, it's pretty tough to measure voltage drop across components.

The only thing I saw it affect was the reading on my battery monitor. I didn't gain any output on my LPM and my current draw at the tail cap stayed the same. So was it really an issue for anything but my battery monitor ? Probably not. :) It did make me have an aversion to springs though. It very possibly could have been the springs I was using. All springs aren't created equal.

I'm really liking the dual mode driver and the long run times. I don't blame you, I would be a happy camper too ! That's a cool build !

Would you mind telling where you sourced the driver for this build. Its the only reason I've not bought this diode yet.

I was wondering the same thing. When he said "solid copper module" I figured he got the driver at the Rick Trent store :) But I was just guessing because it looks like one of the drives he uses. :)
